Hi Antman, 70020 suffered a complete ECU failure & we were trying to get the service recovered but the shed wouldn’t talk to the 70. So had to have someone in the 70 n push using the 66 into Didcot yard at slow speed to run round. Not our finest hour n yes it does cost a lot of money in delay costs 🙈

Hi Chris, thank you so much for explaining what the problem was on Friday, I thought you would need two drivers. Regards Mike.

Very smart livery imo. Taking the two dark lines all the way along the cab sides at both ends stops it looking as if the cabs are sagging, which I’ve always hated. Otherwise, I like the green and yellow Freightliner look. Great video as usual, Antman.

When I worked for DBC , drivers were taxied to a failed train get replacement driver to it. Driver out of hours / Driver passed for route or traction Sometimes that may mean a taxi from Newport to Didcot, Westbury to Hinksey

A lot of "flats" on those freights; can't be good for the track... Last time I saw 70020 was at Soton MCT in August when it was poorly and had to return north DIT in a Freightliner bound for Leeds. Might've been its final working in the green livery. Nicely presented vid Ant.

Failed train penalties is £100 per minute to NR, it was £20 minute to every TOC effected . I did 20 years on failed train rescues. So a failed train incident like this could run into tens of thousands.

Thanks for your interest in watching my video, but 66533 was already on the train so it was a matter of changing the locos round in Didcot yard. Not sure myself if the livery suits the class 70s like it does with the 66s and 90s Take care Mike.
@TrainsAtTrimley-eastSuffolkКүн бұрын
@@antman09ful1 Ah ok, thanks for the info. Yeah, doesn't suit the 70s like the 66s and 90s. Too much orange on it I think, obviously it is an American designed locomotive but really looks like it belongs in America with the livery. Power haul livery looks much better
@snocoelevators2 күн бұрын
I think putting that PH37ACmi in G&W colors turned it into one of Amtrak's ALC-42 chargers, to the point that an EMD had to rescue it (just like how THREE ALC-42s broke on Amtrak #7 so a BNSF GEVO had to haul the train to King St. Station

@S2RUF2 күн бұрын
I’ve failed twice with 66’s, both times they were electrical/computer related issues, often the computer won’t let you do something as it tries to protect the loco from damage. Traction motor flashover is not uncommon, from what I understand the copper wire in the motor can sometimes come loose as it spins and makes contact with the casing of the motor. You usually lose power temporarily but in most cases it will let you take power after a few minutes, in other cases you may need to isolate a traction motor so it doesn’t draw current. Also failed after loosing all the coolant, split pipe let it leak away, computer shut the engine down for ‘low oil pressure’, but that’s because there was no coolant to cool the oil, so it gets hot and goes thinner as it heats up, thus causing low oil pressure. To be honest they are very reliable in the main, I’ve only failed personally 2 times in 10 years, not bad given the abuse they get.

This is something that happens when safety is a priority. Many years ago late 80s I caught a brand new 225 from Kings Cross to Bradford Forster Square, at the time known as the flying carpet, a simple door failure at Wakefield even though only one door was involved the train terminated. One problem we have is that with new technology, parts, etc this will happen and thank goodness it’s happened early so it can be rectified.

Is it just me that think it looks like some cheap plastic crap a toddler has on their first train set? Also the only loco hauled train free of wheel flats was the RHTT, some sounded very bad!
@antman09ful12 күн бұрын
We are all entitled to what we think of this new livery on a class 70, and like you I also don't think it looks right but I'm sure I will get used to it Simon. There are so many freight trains these day with flats, and nobody seams to care about it.
@S2RUFКүн бұрын
@@antman09ful1 It’s not that nobody cares, it’s all about how severe the flat is. The wagons will get RST’d before each journey, flats could be picked up there although it is often hard to see all around the wheel. They’ll usually have a PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) every 6 months, with a more rigorous VIBT (Vehicle Inspection and Brake Test) every 12 months, where a more thorough examination of all the wagon will take place. There are trackside detectors called WILD (Wheel Impact Load Detectors), and the more sophisticated GOTCHA (not sure of what it fully stands for) that will pick up forces as wheels move over it, any high readings are altered to Network Rail control with which axle and which rail generated the reading. This could result in NR stopping the train for the driver to examine, or getting it examined at destination if feasible. In extreme cases this could result in the train going forward at reduced speed, or wagon detached somewhere nearby if that’s appropriate.

Thank you for your view on wheel flats, and explaining what action is taken when they get bad.

Why are all the trains running diesel powered under the electric power lines?
@adambcakebread12442 күн бұрын
Not all lines on the freight routes are electrified. Pretty sure Didcot isn't electrified. Also very few suitable electrical freight locos available.

Morning Nick on the very wet windy morning. So what can I say, firstly on Friday I travelled on a lot of trains which some were very crowded, and I didn't get to film what was planned so that will have to wait to next time. But around midday when travelling south I noticed 70020 in its new livery was working a train to Southampton and had failed near to where I was going, so the rest you know about from the video, but I did get a bit of other footage during the day which you know I will share some other time.
