Operator denotes authority to haul freight. Without a mc and dot# you do not have authority to haul freight. So no your not a operator without that authority. Even if you own your truck. You will be an independent contractor. Why the industry like to call everyone an owner operator is just weird.

I've been with Schneider for just under 3 years. Been with them since the beginning of my career as a rookie driver. Over the past 6 months I've started souring on them. But I'm also pessimistic and am convinced all mega carriers are exactly the same. I'm going to Walmart orientation in a couple weeks anyway so hopefully that works out and can put the mega carriers behind me.

I have 29 years working for the government. I can retire in 8 months. I have had a blast. 20 years US Army. 9 years for a state government. I also held numerous jobs for short periods working for companies. It SUCKED. Government workers get pensions also. Tell your kids to get government jobs. They can retire as millionaires (pension and 401k/457 and social security).

Been with roehl 5 years now. I have complaints believe me, but its not a bad company. They always get me home when i want. The micromanagement ends once they know they can trust u. My inside camera is off and i dont take pics of loads. If u dont like your dispatcher request another one. I went thru several before i got one i liked. If u think schneider or jb hunt is the answer then maybe trucking simply isnt for u. Best of luck whatever u do

Why would you ever lease from a giant company?
@MidlifeTrucker-ThomBell20 күн бұрын
Back of the napkin math - a new truck is $185k plus. If you divide that by 156 weeks (3 years) even with 0% interest, that’s $1185 per week not including any insurance or fees.

40 yrs retired from industry now. All I can say is you guys are nuts to be in a truck today. The entire industry absolutely sucks now. You much better off working a full time job home at night. I understand the parking. It's not that you can't back; it's because someone else can't. You'll do just fine, but someone hits your truck backing or pulling out. Now you've got more delays, and the company may still blame you anyway. As far as your 34, I personally would've just refused the load and waited the 2 hours. Or, you can calculate your recap hours and see what might be coming. Don't take extended breaks until you deliver. Get close as you can, chill, and then deliver. Don't let them micromanage you. You are the captain. Don't answer your phone if they call. Just say it's distracted driving. When you are off duty, don't answer the phone. Try Crete. I heard they were good. You could try Swift. They aren't the greatest, but they certainly aren't the worst. Money will be better at Crete.
@KILRtv21 күн бұрын
As a driver, you're expecting something that you'll most likely not get. Outward cameras are to cover your butt. Inward is definitely invasion. The message about leaving a paved surface is definitely stupid. There are tons of places that aren't paved, and you can't avoid them. As far as Lease Purchase, it's not a good idea. The company controls your success and hours. And people are right, you are not an owner operator. You don't own the truck, and you can't take it to another company until you do. You are basically a Company Driver with all the expenses and risks on you. I think Roehl has APU's in their trucks, and that's why the payments are expensive. If you run out of hours, do a Split Sleeper Berth. You'll get hours back. PC also works as long as you don't abuse it. And yes, planners and dispatchers do have power over you. If you piss them off, they'll start giving you crappy loads or make you wait and tell you that's all they have. You have no way to verify unless you have access to the load board. Is it right? No, but there is little you can do about it. Trucking sucks. You have to adapt or find something else. Hate to say it. No bathroom, showers, or food? Adapt. You can sponge bath. Bring non refrigerated food. You have to look after you. They won't. That said, you have to look at the positives. You've got freedom on the road, you can see different things, and take time off in places you wouldn't normally be able to. Going from one mega carrier to another is like expecting the grass to be greener. As far as being Lease Operator, you answered your own question. As a company driver, you are getting the same pay, you've got benefits, and you don't have to stress about payments, fuel, or repairs. Never lease from a company. Do it on your own through a 3rd Party. You then have the power to take that truck somewhere else. Whatever happens, I wish you the best.

Those of us who are in or were already know. He's preaching to the choir. Trucking sucks. It won't get better. You have to accept and adapt or get out.
