i’m asking for one for christmas for very similar reasons to you (especially that bezos comment😂) and have been watching a ton of reviews, i love how concise and clear yours is! i’ve never had an e reader, only briefly used my mom’s kindle way back when they first came out and really didn’t like it then, but the newer ones look so great, especially from kobo! i’ve been looking into one lately as i have severe migraines but love to read, and can’t read physical books much any more & heard e ink is easy on the eyes i did have one question, does it have a textured screen, like a “paper like” screen protector would? i really don’t love that feeling and am curious if i should plan to buy a glass screen protector to cover it or not (i’m aware that could add glare, id mostly be using it in near pitch black settings so it wouldn’t be an issue for me)
@cocosbooknook22 сағат бұрын
Thanks for the compliment!! It does have a very slight papery feel, but not nearly as much as one of those paper-feel screen protectors or actual paper :)

@cocosbooknook4 күн бұрын
@@thebearslibrary it’s probably true! But I think it also stops your library from updating when you buy or borrow books from a browser other than your kindle :/

it does but then you can just quickly turn on the wifi, update your selection, and turn it back off! I’ve also heard of people downloading 20 books before their free KU expires and then turning the wifi off so they don’t all immediately get sent back. fun stuff lol

My main concern is whether the screen is a bit too faded/low contrast text. Some say it has that issue but when you show it to camera it doesn’t look bad
@cocosbooknook8 күн бұрын
@Penpaper I personally don’t find it to be an issue, especially if the brightness is up. It may seem somewhat faded compared to like a kindle paperwhite, but I don’t really notice it. Also, for me, the lack of ads and the easy side loading are worth a slightly less crisp screen. I hope that helps you with your decision!

@@cocosbooknookWhat about this flashing black effect each time the screen is touched? Does it hurt/bother the eyes?
@cocosbooknook8 күн бұрын
That's the refresh, it happens on every e-ink display, including kindle and boox. With the kobo, when you go to reading settings, you can decide how often it refreshes (I chose every four pages read). It doesn't happen as much when you're in a book. If I make a follow up video I'll try to mention or show something about it. It's also never bothered me, but I could see if it bothered others! :)

I have always used PocketBooks. In 2024, I bought an Amazon Paperwhite 11th generation and fell in love with it. And I love it because of the ads. I would never find those great books myself. So, for me, ads are a plus. What I don't like about Kobo Libra is the design of the device and the white color of it.

I love memoirs from people whose life experiences are completely, utterly different from mine. This might not be up your alley, but I read one called Ranger Confidential, about a woman's experience being a park ranger in a couple of American national parks; and just recently I read Touching the Void, a survival story about a mountain climbing accident - the mental and physical toil described is so vivid and unnerving.
