Beginner here, how often do you need to siphon the gravel and change the water in this aquarium? Or will it thrive on its own without any maintenance?
@va1bhav24321 сағат бұрын
Depends, if you are using real plants with aqua soil just wait for the system to attain equilibrium and the tank will take care of itself. Never siphon the soil of a tank with aqua soil because it will just leech extra nutrients into the water column and cause algae, you can introduce a couple of bottom dwellers to the tank so that waste doesn’t collect in the spaces where flow can’t reach

Why does this "step by step" not even mention the filter choice and setup, or the lighting choice and setup, or the c02 generator and setup? 8:57 is not true. I've put fish in all of my fresh tanks immediately and no problems. I don't even do water changes for the first couple of weeks. What is waiting 3 weeks going to do? Bacteria aren't just going to magically appear without any food source. "You have to add ammonia!", people say. No, you add fish, bacteria, and seachem prime, and everything balances out.

My problem is I have a single comet goldfish, that can annihilate $30 of aquarium plants in less than 24 hours. He is an expensive to keep but loved gold fish. I am still learning about fish keeping, but I would like to have a go at growing my own plants so that I am not forking out so much money. I have never grown my own plants before. I very much suck at normal potted plants because, if it cant ask for water or walk to water at my house its pretty screwed. SO I thought aquarium plants might be easier, because I wont have to worry about remembering to water them. Where is a good place to start as a beginner?
