Talking spoilers. Normally don't do this kind of thing, but y'all kept asking, so I'll give ye what ye asked foreth. I also had some thoughts on the RDJ as Doom situation, and how it tied into the Jonathan Majors story in my mind. I felt like the interviewer brought up a great point, that Ezra and RDJ got an opportunity even after their personal situations, but Majors didn't. I don't think Disney should hire wanton criminals or anything, but dude got a misdemeanor for trying to run away from (and being rough with) a woman ON CAMERA. He's not even a felon. RDJ's issues were from way back and he'd gotten his life together by the time they hired him as Iron Man. Also, Iron Man was not some Batman-level box office draw when RDJ got that role. Iron Man was a B tier hero. The MCU now is much bigger and you gotta be way more careful with who you cast as there's far more on the line, especially if he's gonna be your big villain for an entire arch. With Erza I do agree he got too many chances. He's a total POS. Thing is, those cinematic universes that Ezra is in are sinking ships and WB knows that, which is probably why they just let it ride. Having Ezra on wasn't gonna affect the bottom line, they were just trying to recoup some of that money before axing that particular DC universe and probably putting the Harry Potter stuff on hold for a long time.

@@THE_BEAR_JEW For the Flash movie and Ezra Miller, wasn't it too far into production for them to do anything about it anyways (like a recast).It's why the promotion of that movie was almost entirely focused on Michael Keaton's Batman. edit: I think the equivalent would be if the Kang Dynasty movie was well into production when his controversy came up.

@@THE_BEAR_JEWyeah with RDJ I can get it bc his issues weren’t so recent when he got hired and back then he wasn’t put into a big role as Iron Man is now. And MCU casting isn’t as fragile and sensitive as it is now since it’s gotten so big. It was a matter of time and role relevance at the time. Erza is a different story, though these are different studios so it’s WB fault and not Disney with Erza. Disney was being cautious with its current state, WB is a different story

Like you, there's a lot of thoughts so here we go. 1. I hate that Jonathan Majors hit job that the spineless individual did on Jonathan asking him those kinds of questions when he's just going for a walk. Like, you don't ask those kinds of questions in that setting as she's clearly trying to get a reaction out of him. Now, here in New York, Majors has a bit of a reputation so I personally believe that it was just a bad situation for both him & his ex as they were wrong for each other, just as that stupid person was wrong for coming at JM like that. Comparing his situation to RDJ & Ezra Miller is like saying a tiger, a housecat, & a beanie baby of a cat are the same thing because they're cats. RDJ had long put his past behind him [we're talking about decades but if we're being pedantic, he was about 6ish years post incidents after he was cast as Iron Man & even that was a gamble], Ezra got way too many chances & should've been ousted as well as the fact that we don't see him in any new movies. The Majors situation is STILL relatively fresh so both on a healing level & a linear level, it's way too soon to say that Majors would've made an RDJ type recovery. It sucks for me to say that as someone who was a day one JM stan since seeing him in The Last Black Man in San Francisco, but Disney had to pivot... but... 2. COLMAN F*CKIN DOMINGO. IF Disney were going to pivot, not recasting Kang with Colman Domingo was a MASSIVE missed opportunity. He has said he's down for entering this world & has the chops to be the Ultimate Kang but writing it out this way feels so lazy. I'm with you on the recasting & how weird it is & despite what I may have said earlier, I do feel REALLY BAD for Jonathan Majors. I do hope he is able to heal a bit & that in time, he can return. 3. Everything you said about fanservice. YUP. 4. I think that amidst all the RDJ news, folks are forgetting that the Russo Brothers are returning to direct the Avengers movies with Stephen McFeely writing them. THE SAME GUYS involved with the best MCU movies. We'll be fine. Didn't mean for this to end up like War & Peace, but I had a lot of feelings.

People tend to overlook that RDJ is an actor actor. He's not like, with all due respect, Ryan Reynolds who basically plays himself in every movie. People who think that Dr Doom is going to be Tony Stark with a new skin, are ignoring the fact that his filmography is full of characters that he not only played, but became. The low-hanging fruit of course was Tropic Thunder, but watch him, in Natural Born Killers, become an Australian reporter, complete with an accent that even Australians think is on point. I loved that film, and even I didn't realize that RDJ played that character, even after watching all the Iron Man/Avengers films.

So about the cameos: Starting with Blade, my jaw dropped on the floor when he arrived. That was crazy, I expected Fox characters to pop-up but he's not one of them. He's from New Line Cinema. I do agree with you that he should've wielded his classic sword. I don't see it as a katana since it's double edged, straight and symmetrical even though it has the witdth of a katana. When I saw Chris Evans, I assumed he was playing Johnny Storm from the start. And I loved it. I wish he stuck around too, it would've been great. As I said I expected Fox characters to appear since we already saw a lot of them in the trailers. That's also why I recognized Elektra's signature weapons before seeing her. It made sense. Seeing her made me happy too, not as much as Wesley though. Yes her solo movie was really bad, but I still love the Affleck Daredevil movie. It's been the case since I saw it in the theater back then, and the Director's Cut being release since also made it better. Anyways, back to Blade for one last thing: I didn't think they would do it since it would've been a bit too much on the nose and if done wrong, but hearing "There are still motherf***ers trying to ice-skate uphill" before we leave the void was amazing! I wanted to have more Blade, but we're not watching a Blade movie, so I let it go. I wasn't too hot about Blade being played by someone else, then warmed up to it after I saw Snipes gave his blessing and passed the torch to Ali. And before all the recent delays and changes behind the scenes, I was looking forward to see his take on the character. Now, not so much. Especially after seeing the OG back and he still got it. He's not young anymore, but still probably has more mobility than younger actors when it comes to action and fight scenes. I'm not kidding myself, even if he comes back, how many action movies does he have still in him? It makes sense to recast him, and as long as the script is good, I'll be there. A bad script would only hurt Snipes or any other character's legacy whoever plays them. Sorry I went on this tangent, it had to come out. All that to say who's behind the camera matters as much as who's in front of it. Cheers from France! 🍻

My favorite moment is when Logan shreds Wade apart with that emotional speech in the van and then all Deadpool says is, "I'm gonna fight you now". I didn't expect that and it felt so authentic lol. Loved seeing blade. Before Ali had been casted, I was of the opinion of having Wesley come back and pass the mantle onto his daughter from the comics. Gambit works in this movie and I am happy Channing got his moment but it definitely didn't make me a full on project, sadly. The kills in this movie gave me mortal kombat vibes and that is not a complaint.

With regards to T’Challa and Ross, I absolutely agree that one shouldn’t have been something of a “too sacred to be recast” but not the other situation, but I’m also of two minds in that I appreciate that Disney respected Ryan Coogler’s wishes not to recast the character. I personally feel they told a brilliant story with Black Panther WF and paid a ton of homage to both the T’Challa character and Chadwick Boseman. Setting up a next of kin to become the next T’Challa I think was a very warm way to go about it, but yeah with the advent of the multiverse shenanigans it’s in a very confusing spot right now. My best guess is this stuff with RDJ as Doom is simply them ‘washing their hands’ of this “low” point the MCU now has a reputation for and drumming up excitement with new announcements like these to get the general populace to forget said low point. Money talks and hype drives the money, sadly

I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago when the YT algorithm suggested your pokng at Cinema Sins Vids (Those are nicely done by the way 😉 )... I love talkin' shop when it comes to the Marvel movies. I've been a True Believer since i was 5 when my nerdy, older brother let me read his comic collection to keep me out of his hair (It's a fair point, i was annoying 😜) I LOVED Deadpool & Wolverine! 😁 That movie made me sooooo happy. It was hilarious, it was thoughtful, and it down right kicked all sorts of ass... just get them all in a line and kick them! It was THAT awesome 😁 Now i wanna get to the juicy bits of your vid here... you said RDJ kicked off the MCU with that first Iron Man movie... i disagree. X-Men paved the road first (with some help from Toby's Spider-Man and Blade I+2)... that led to us getting Avengers by 2012 because Hollywood seen how profitable a comic book movie could be when done right... and that means paying the fan service 😉 Don't get me wrong, I loved RDJ playing Tony Stark even though I am a Forever Team Cap 😉... but i really DO NOT LIKE that he is coming back to play Dr. Doom. Honestly, I wanted Adam Driver or Keanu Reeves to play Doom. I feel having RDJ in that role isn't going to have the impact they want or expect. I would've preferred RDJ reprising the role of Tony if they'd do a proper story for Riri Williams/Iron Heart where she acquires a Jarvis-version AI of Tony Stark and showcases her intelligence and determination to becoming Iron Man's successor.... In the comics, Riri did have an AI Tony aiding her. He also served as her mentor and foil to some extent. I would like to see that relationship/character development for Riri in that the AI Tony does aid her, but he is still only an AI... and throwing in a multi-verse variant of Stark for Riri to get the interaction with the Real Tony Stark could be interesting. Maybe he doesn't trust her at first, and after doing some proving herself work through the use of her smarts and grit, Variant Tony gets on-board. I don't know, maybe that's a terrible idea... but I wanna see more Riri to set up her spot in the Young Avengers and i honestly thought that would be a better way to bring RDJ back into the MCU without casting him as a major cornerstone Marvel Villian. And, yes, Jonathan Majors got fucked out of his role. I'm not defending what he did, but I don't think we need to be a 'One Strike and You're Gone FOREVER' Society. He has displayed remorse for what happened... and i really want an ending to the entire Kang Dynasty set-up. I CAN'T STAND loose ends! Seriously, did the Loki Who Sits at the Center destroy ALL Kangs in every universe or alter events so that none of them become a threat? That's the ONLY plot move i could conceive that makes ANY sense... otherwise, it's a major plot hole that needs some major explaining moving forward. That's my rant for the day. Great channel. I'm definitely subbing, Sir 😉

8:11 I am with you on fanservice not being a bad thing. For me, however, it can sometimes feels like a distractionary tactic. Call me cynical, but sometimes I have that feeling that fanservice (and i want to stress out this by saying "if done badly") blinds some people to think that said nostalgia bait thing will overlook some bad (ie. The "Illuminati" from MoM) to downright lame stuff (ie. RDJ becoming Dr. Doom replacing Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror because of his recent issues with his ex and all that). Of course i am taking the latter over some real-life controversy that had transpired, but I hope you get what I am trying to say.

i felt the entire "anchor being" lent a lot of credence to the whole meta narrative aspect you mentioned. like, think about it. which character propped up the Fox Marvel Universe for so long? Who was it that always got people in theaters? It was always Wolverine. His existence, aka Jackman's involvement in the franchise, kept them making movies because they'd always pay out. With Wolverine dead (Jackman retiring from the role), the timeline started "dying" (so no more Fox universe movies). Deadpool saves his timeline by reviving Wolverine (Ryan Reynolds convinces Hugh Jackman to pick up the role again and explore a different arc for him). What I'm hoping is that they allow for this Wolverine to play more of a mentor role. I love Jackman's performance, but he's starting to get up there and I feel like they've earned a torch passing moment by having X-23 take the spotlight. Maybe Wolverine can be the Charles Xavier for the New Mutants in that world.

But he doesn't get a chance as Kang because of that? When EZRA FUCKING MILLER gets to keep his roles as Credence and Flash despite... "Stuff-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named"?? Un fair I tell you. I dunno... like it was trying to spin it a certain way, like she was trying to make RDJ the bad guy just because he got the role for Doom and comparing RDJ's mistakes that he made *Before* he became Iron Man to Miller's criminal activities *during* their time as the Flash. RDJ managed to turn his life around before he became Iron Man. Miller, as far as I know (And if I'm wrong, feel free to correct me because I don't know what they're like now), was an psycho during Fantastic Beasts and the Synder-verse. The two have NOTHING in common

It’s also weird how marvel was adamant about not recasting Chadwick’s role but when William Hurt passed away they LEAPT at the chance to recast a generally more well known name in the industry, Harrison Ford. Seems precarious.

I followed the Majors situation pretty thoroughly and one of my big takeaways from it was that by all accounts, Mr. Majors was actively trying to get away from a situation in which the woman was aggressively harming him and egging him on. It came as a genuine shock to me that he was actually found guilty.
@Th3Birdman3 ай бұрын
That's the thing: he was found guilty of Third Degree Assault, which basically means he was "scary and intimidating" during the taxi event. Him putting her back in the car is what they found him guilty of, not domestic abuse, which they found him not guilty. I put that information on the screen in this video. Problem is, people don't care WHAT they found him guilty of, only that he was found guilty of something, with people going so far as to call him a "woman beater". This overreaction is likely what happened within Disney, where they decided to can him before the trial was over and the documents came out. Terrible situation to be in.
@EmrysMerlin88073 ай бұрын
@@Th3Birdman I think it's fairly safe to say that Disney likely had planned to have him outed as soon as the verdict came back if it came back in any way negatively, and that's exactly what happened. Then the public used that outing to full on crucify him. It pisses me off that we lost one of, in my opinion, the greatest potential stars of the generation because of this.

Many Hollywood actors have been accused of things before and will be in the future. If Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp can overcome them and still get work why can't Majors. And he looks so heartbroken. The MCU needs actors like him who actually love the characters. I really hope they bring him back as Kang.

I feel like there's a right way and a wrong way to do fan service. If It's just there as 'member-berries tossed in to get butts in seats, you're doing it all wrong. If there's no narrative reason for it to be there, like you could replace them with background character #27 and it wouldn't change much, that's just sloppy writing. The problem with these online critics is some of them can't tell the difference between fan service and nostalgia bait.

Seeing a lot of people saying that RDJ coming back "Ruins" Iron Mans death I know Disney hasn't exactly established the multiverse all that well quite yet but...come on? It's obviously not the main universe Tony, you know, the one that fucking died? I haven't seen the new Deadpool movie but given that Wolverine isn't an old ass man I feel confident in assuming it's not the exact same Logan from the Fox continuity Is this all really that hard to understand?

Apologies for the rambling, i typed this with no real structure in mind. I agree with all your points, the Jonathan Majors thing.. i hope like RDJ in time gets another chance to shine in a big production because like you said, he is a phenomenal actor. In my opinion he deserves to be in big blockbuster movies. Im a big Iron Man fan since the cartoon days, RDJ brought Tony to life, like Jonathan Majors brought Kang to life. As for your recast opinion, Terrance Howard got recast in Iron Man 2, William Hurt got recast, hell some actors play multiple roles, for instance the lead actress in the Eternals also played in Captain Marvel.. with that being said, even if they wanted to move away from Kang, they could have recast Jonathan Majors into a different role. As for RDJ as Dr. Doom, i see that as desperation by Marvel. Most movies that came out after Endgame haven't matched Endgame as far as entertainment value goes. There have been a few gems in my opinion, such as Spider-Man No Way Home, Shang-Chi, Guardians 3, Dr. Strange MoM, DP3 but other than those there have been plenty missers too, not because it didn't match Endgame but because they were just bad or terrible (Love and Thunder) and now with Dr. Doom they are like "we need something to work, the multiverse saga is falling apart... ahh break open glass RDJ in case of such an emergency". Honestly i would have liked for Chris Evans and RDJ to never come back to give their respective characters a sort of finality (if that's a word). Marvel needs to build up new characters that can carry the franchise and not rely on characters or actors from the past to give them a get out of jail free pass like they are doing now.

B-Man, I am glad I'm not the only one feeling the tepid reaction for RDJ coming as Dr. Doom as well as them throwing out Kang seemingly. I share the sentiment that I hope it IS Victor von Doom and not Tony Stark who just had a bad day. I've seen some reports that say it is indeed Victor von Doom but you know how early buzz like that can change or mask what's beneath the surface (like how Andrew Garfield lied about his involvement in No Way Home). Dr. Doom is one of the greatest and most complex "villains" in all of comics and I hope he isn't relegated to only that film he was announced for and Secret Wars. To that point, I wonder why not cast someone else. RDJ is fantastic but he's not getting any younger. For a character as important as Dr. Doom, he'd be great for multiple film appearances. As for Johnathan Majors, super unfortunate that his time in the MCU was cut short, but I also share the idea of just recasting the actor. There were so many options and other great people who could have portrayed Kang that recasting was even easier here than a situation like Chadwick's unfortunate passing. I hope we get to see some kind of closure or resolution to the whole Council of Kangs. Finally, I'm super glad to hear that the Russo's are back to direct both Avengers films so I'm willing to wait and see what they cook up for us.

Forgive any poor grammar or punctuation, this is a cross faded rant 😭. So the Johnathan Majors thing has always been tricky, at least for me. Because I won’t say he’s a woman beater, but at most he’s like really manipulative, maybe emotionally abusive(?). Like the video of them in the house and being mad at her coming home late, that can be explained away. What really left a bad taste in my mouth were the messages. He basically says “if you leave or tell on me me I’ll hurt myself.” Something along those lines. I think that’s really what sealed his fate for his career. That really can’t be explained away like other things from his case. While I will say it’s not completely fair for RDJ and Ezra to get second chances and he doesn’t, but their second chances came at a cost. RDJ was under a lot of strict conditions for him to even film Iron Man. Like one wrong move and he’s out type strict. I don’t follow Ezra or DC, so don’t take my words to heart on this (or anything tbh), but I’m pretty sure that was his last major role as the flash. Like the only reason they went through with finishing, releasing, and press touring is because they would lose out on too much money to scrap it. At the end of the day Majors is a great actor, idk about him being a great guy though. I personally think both of them were toxic in the relationship but he ended up taking it a step too far. Whether we like him or not, whether we believe him or not, he was found guilty of a misdemeanor, third-degree assault, and second-degree harassment. Clearly the court saw something we didn’t. I hope they don’t get rid of Kang all together though. I personally think LaKeith Stanfield would be an amazing replacement choice.

Love the breakdown, but you and I both know why hersh is running into problems, as well as Johnathan and Chadwick. Racism disregards logic which is why there's so many incongruities to the MCU surrounding the contiunation of leading black characters . Their focus groups for the making the most money are with people that do not look like us, so any reason they have to not give us a proper platform will be the first thing they do. It's been apparent since Chadwick's death and it's only becoming clearer as the years go by. Keep up the great work my guy.

The only time fan service is a problem is when it’s done poorly or gratuitously and is only done to prop up what is otherwise a not great movie. But as long as it serves the story and makes the movie even better fan service is great. And No way home and Deadpool definitely do it well especially Deadpool

The other issue is that on repeated viewings the fan service kinda loses its appeal because you know it’s coming. fanservice at the cost of substance can be bad (for example: Star Trek: Picard is entirely banking on being Picard fanservice and doesn't really offer anything new or interesting like a Star Trek series should). but I think the fanservice in this move (and all the deadpool movies) enhances the substance of the film, especially this one. cause like it's the X-Force joke but an inversion of it, instead of jamming a bunch of characters in and killing them for a laugh to make fun of big team up movies it's them placing a bunch of characters fans know into a spot where new characters could never receive a proper introduction and then killing them off for real meaning.

Like you I don't know all the facts, but I do think Johnathan Majors had been done dirty by Disney. I didn't know who he was until the first season of Loki, and I think I've only seen him in Marvel movies. Victor Timely was an interesting character and I loved how he portrayed the character. (I started writing before the end of the video, you just mentioned Ezra Miller. It kind of shows how inconsistent Hollywood is when it comes to these kind of events. And I believe T'Challa should've been recast. They should've kept his story going. It's okay to recast Ross but not T'Challa? Why? I wanna know why.) Back to Majors, and it rejoins what you were saying about Channing Tatum and Gambit. You can see he's pationate about Kang. He didn't have to accept to do the interview in the first place. He could've just ignored them or hid from them. If he was such a bad and violent person, wouldn't he be more aggressive and told them to f*** off? Sure even an impulsive and violent person could pretend to be nice for a moment, it doesn't seem to be that here. Majors looks like a dude who lost maybe the biggest opportunity of his life and is heartbroken about it. Not mad, not pissed, just heartbroken. Like Johnny Depp, he was thrown under the bus before all the information was out instead of waiting before making such an important decision. Yet Miller is given chance after chance despite the overwhelming amount of evidence of him having (and for Hollywood being) a problem. I'll end there on this subject, I'll post a second comment for the Deadpool & Wolverine topic. Cheers from France! 🍻

Anyone view fan service as a bad thing, it’s probably the viewpoint with a couple factors such as nostalgia or cast fan favorites and seems as excuse to appease audiences. I feel bad for Mr. Majors having Kang dropped out because it’s a character with such range of personalities he can challenge himself and loves performing them. As we can welcome RDJ’s return for Dr.Doom, I still wonder is there a chance for Kang’s return.

6:08 It was supposed to look a little goofy as Channing Tatum's Gambit never actually made it onto the screen, only to storyboard and initial mock ups... so his whole existence was in the Void having come from never getting fully realized in his own movie. As someone who loves fan service: the bad thing about it is that it’s “easy”. I’ve seen too often where a piece of media devolves into “look at all these things you remember”. That said, D&W works the fan service in well and I’ve seen people who typically do complain about fan service, praise this movie for how well it pulls it off. The problem is that the Hate Goblins, who don’t have any media literacy and just parrot their favorite critics, only understand “fan service bad”. It’s not, it’s just an easy crutch for a bad writer. But when GOOD writers use fan service… oh BOY are we in for one HELL of a ride!

I also don't get why people are calling this and NWH solely fan-service movies. Not only for the reasons you said, but people complain casuals and newbies can't enjoy or understand the films when they 100% can. Even if they can't, why is that a bad thing? Theres millions of films out there, not every film needs to cater to them. These films are a love letter to the older beloved movies and those fans. Nuff said.
