This video is fantastic!! One extra thing you showed on your video is that Pitou and Netero not only tried three times to stop their opponent. Pitou tried to use words against the enraged Gon but had to resort to physically breaking her own arm to get through to Gon. Meanwhile Netero tried to physically force the calm Meruem to fight, but he could only be persuaded by words. Such incredible writing!

It's interesting that at the height of their development- their affinity towards light and darkness invert. Meruem born in metaphorically in the depths of Hell, generates a purple Ren of purple darkness as its based on the literal consumption of others, and overall a haughty monster of evil, gains a power to generate light to warp to locations/dying with grace. Gon on the other hand, living on an island of bright optimism, having a power generating a sun-like aura when used, and is normally a pleasant guy outside of the hints of darkness, becomes a completely dark silhouette monstrosity and his warped adult form embodies his dark despair/almost dying as a decaying husk.

It's interesting that the Chimera Ants are introduced in the very worst light-with them gathering entire villages to feed their queen, killing them in barbaric manners, and later enslaving them in hellish manners with their shown top commander- Pitou outright lobotimizing a favored character. Then gradually, more humane members come around and the previously monstrous characters gain noble characteristics that make them tragic.

After it was all said and done Meruem died happy in the arms of the person who loved him most and Gon nearly died in agony and despair after isolating himself from the person who loved him most.

Another way that we are worse than the ants is crucifixion. During that scene there's a bunch of crosses. It looks like a graveyard but upon further inspection, there are people hanging from said crosses with crows or vultures circling around them. Both birds are scavengers and would feed on the condemned along with wild dogs

The idea of it being Pairo's head would be so interesting to me cause of a few things. First, the idea of an actual full head means there's an identity, he's been collecting the eyes but it might have been not as painful because they were just eyes. With the head it will be linked to someone he knows. Second of course, it being his literal best friend... it'd be like Killua dying next to Gon or something and that leads me to the 3rd thing, Oito, Bill, Woble, Shimano... none of them have really seem Kurapika flip out. He's kinda been the incredibly calm, intelligent and jaded guy this whole time, even before the voyage when we caught up with him again. Also makes me wonder, why was a whole head kept and didn't have the eyes taken??

This is an amazing video. One thing I have to say tho is that Netero knew the king was becoming human. He didn't care. He just wanted a strong opponent to face.

Meruem was given someone to care about while gon lost someone he cared about thus creating an ironic character development between the two.

i went into this video expecting to know all this stuff (i'm a giant hunter x hunter nerd, lol) but pretty much all this stuff was completely new to me!! i knew the bits about netero and the buddhist references because i know a lot about buddhism, but other than that, it was all new info! i had never even thought about reina meaning "queen" even though i speak spanish, such a neat detail. and the kurama and kite comparison was genius. nice job! i love people that appreciate things they like deeply like this, you're got a new subscriber<3

I wanna add something (if anyone reads this, 5 years later.) First, I think the panal with Chrollo looking sinister and the number on the sign indicates more members of the Troupe were killed off screen. You can see Chrollo has on a different attire from the last time they all met, and, Chrollo has no reason to kill those passengers. Then, theres also the cockroache being stepped on(Hisoka has been hard to get rid of, like a cockroach. Could be symbolic, since, Chrollo is Kurapikas job. The only reason Hisoka would have to be kept alive after round 2 with Chrollo is to have his seemingly inevitable confrontation with Gon.) I dont see any of them making it to the Dark Continent. (Kurapika may die as well, do to his chain ability shortening his life.) But back to what I was saying, I believe the panel with Chrollo by himself implies the Spider has lost more Legs. Its not a bad play, as first of all, I doubt Togashi intends to depict every confrontation between Hisoka and a Spider he kills(unlike Kurapika, Hisoka isnt nearly as important). Its important to understand that Chrollo is alone, in different attire than the last we saw him. The numbers may be foreshadowing most of the troupe having been killed. Its reasonably assumed Chrollo found out about Kortopi and Shalnark shortly after it happened, so hes had time to process that. In the panel, it seems like something has recently happened. At the very least, Shizuku is dead. Maybe Phinks as well.
