At 0:10, from the get going, he pulled her into his world, she will benefit from learning to guard pass each time the bottom player pulls her. At 0:21, she grabbed his calf, that was slick and nice. Guard passing by grabbing first. She'll need to expand later. At 0:55, she has the guts and daredevil attitude to try the leg lock game. The only issue with leg lock later is when you don't drill em enough, you're very vulnerable if you don't make it, and the guy getting tangled if he stands up, literally top mounts you. But I admire her daredevil try. At 1:08-1:09, you notice how she turn around his leg ? Nice. Next time tell her to target the back. Jump on him and try the back. At 3:55-3:58, she passed his guard. That was shallow but who cares, at her level, what she did was EXCELLENT. Tell her to develop her game like this: guard passing. At 4:44, her arms are extended. Upperbelt love to toy with students by extending their arms. Tell her to pass guard each time one tries to extend her arms. I could go on and on with this, I love to analyse how beginners like this try many things. Her risk taking attitude will take her very far in grappling.

I agree with the other comment .The overall level looks concerningly low .1:03 guy grabs over and tries to do what exactly with the opponent leg ? then he is unsure if he should grab legs, hands or whatever of opponent and decides to lean forward with no grip to then get swept because he has no base and no grips ;) ... even for blue belts that is questionable lack of basics.... 4:23 that guys armbar attempt ??? and then he has the wrong knee up when he is bottom side mount ;) holy ... who let this guy out of white belt and gave him blue ??? Now this sounds like a lot of hate from me but i actually dont mean it as hate. If you are a blue belt and dont know the basic concept when in an opponents guard to first get a good base then fight the legs.,.. then after legs are passed get base and fight hands and then fill in space on body... i wonder if this is a good school. Good luck on your journey. maybe buy some video from BJJFanatics ;)

I’m debating starting at my GJJ CTC or another BJJ gym. I love the Gracie style and fundamentals but here’s my concerns (my son has been in the youth program for a year). The gym has no open mat, it’s silly I have to buy a Gracie GI and TShirt, and at least at the kids levels it’s taught only as a self defense tool, there’s no submissions, little emphasis on defense and also no open mat opportunities either.

There are always pros and cons with opening an "affiliate based" school like a GU CTC or gracie garage. I don't know what the rules and restrictions are off the top of my head but I imagine if you have your own school, even under GU, you should be able to have an open mat. I also thought at one point about opening a CTC but have decided that if and when I open a school it will be independent and not GU based. I don't want any "overlord" looking over how I conduct my training - if it's my own school of course.

@@purerollingjiujitsu isn’t the point of fight sim to practice real world self defense? If you aren’t throwing strikes, you’re cheating your training partner out of the chance to train against punches. I’ve personally found that my jiu jitsu is way more effective in fight sim.
@purerollingjiujitsu
@purerollingjiujitsu 2 ай бұрын
You're exactly right. This is selfish of me but I don't train for the benefit of my training partners. Sure, I like to be a good training partner and a good bad guy when drilling. But, I train for me and my goals. Our school practices striking so I practice striking but it is not a goal of mine to be a great striker, whether standing or on the ground. The interplay between striking and grappling is awesome. The old adage that if you're punch safe you are probably doing the right thing (technique wise) is also true. What if my training partner runs into a wrestler on the street? The wrestler probably won't throw many punches but rely on his background in grappling.
@WWTDYLD
@WWTDYLD 2 ай бұрын
I mean real talk, you’re cheating yourself too. If you’re not practicing realistic fight sim, you’re not truly doing self defense jiu jitsu. All I see here is gloves getting in the way of your grappling. That can’t be good for training either. Learn to throw strikes in jiu jitsu because it’s realistic for the street. You’re at the best school in the world for self defense but not practicing it or following the methodology of your school. I see a lot of guys doing this though so I’m not crucifying you for it. I just find it curious from practice all the way up to posting this video.

I totally get it. Admittedly though, I don't train for self defense. Sure it's a great consequence of training but not why I train. Not even close to top 5 tbh. I believe the best form of self defense is avoidance, followed by deescalation. I totally admit that Gracie jiu jitsu, especially GU based schools, are mostly self-defense based jiu jitsu but not what I am interested in nor care about. Especially in this day and age society is litigious. Sure you may have thought you were just defending yourself but show me video footage of you in modified mount with twisting arm control punching your opponent in the face and I'll show you a jury that: 1) doesn't understand jiu jitsu; and 2) shows you on top in the fight beating up your opponent. The lesson is don't get in fights off the mat. Better to eat your ego and walk away than fight. Someone's going to get hurt. Someone's probably going to get sued and it's going to cost everyone time. @@WWTDYLD
