I also noticed while watching your videos and some of Tom Tom's videos that the knife is straight the ENTIRE flight, from the moment it leaves your hand to hitting the board. Does this just come with practice? Is this the perfect no spin throw?

@@jaketwilcox13 it’s a feature of wave no spin throw which is based on pulling. It cannot be achieved with push-style. Keep firm grip all the way like you were not want to let go of the knife and throw with your lower body (legs and hips) while everything else is relaxed (but guided).

Hi Joel, awesome as usual. Any advice/tips related to wave-style half spin, other than loosen the grip?
@joelholopainen6865Ай бұрын
No other than trying to think half spin as same as no spin. In Yuri Fedin’s examples half spin eventually act in the same as no spins. The knife just turn 180 first and then fly straight to the target.
@AAA-tc1uhАй бұрын
If you throw it exactly as you do with no-spin, wouldn't the knife fly handle-first into the target? Something has to be different.
@joelholopainen6865Ай бұрын
@@AAA-tc1uhthat’s right and the difference is the softer grip which allows the knife to spin 180.

(Sorry youtube did delete my commentary), i was asking if you feel that over 210g knife are too clumsy , why you got your best result in competition with the arrow who weight 235-250g if i'm not wrong? And what knife are you using in competition actually? The Devil's claw light maybe?
@joelholopainen68652 ай бұрын
When your technique develops you are ready to move to lighter knives which are more sensitive but nicer to throw and train with. ’Sensitive’ means that the knives are less forgiving for little mistakes but also react more sensitively to your ’commands’. Heavier knives are more stable but the feeling while throwing them is clumsier. I won with arrows 5-6 years ago. A lot have changed since then. But for long distance throwing I would still choose arrows. For 3-7 meter competition I would choose 6mm No reload by Zitoon. They are better than Devil Claw lights. Both are 210 g. At the end of the day these are all questions of personal taste.

I always say that it’s not a about the car, it’s about the driver. Zitoon knows what he’s doing and you can’t go wrong with any of these knives you mentioned. Having said this, me and Adam Celadin have won all our medals and have done all our records with arrows. But the answer still depends. If you have a high grip the arrow may not be a good option.

Hello and thanks for all the tips. What technique are you demonstrating here? At 3 meters I am unable to stick it no spin. The release is where I fail. Letting it "slip" from my hand sends it late or I am releasing by opening my hand, which you suggest is a mistake, proven by never sticking. Any suggestions on how to overcome that. Also I feel like I am combining techniques wrongly such as grip. Thanks
@joelholopainen68653 ай бұрын
Yeah, there are many techniques and even mine have changed many times over the years. To me this is a wave style presented in the vid. - closed grip from the bottom, no air holes - grip is firm but relaxed (I know it’s hard) - start loosening your grip when you feel extreme tension in your wrist (at this moment the tip of the knife points backwards from the target) - never open the grip - early release is one of the secrets of no spin - start from 1-2 meters and report back how it goes. I’m on messenger too.
@toddeisenhauer74773 ай бұрын
Thank you very much. I am sticking consistently at 1-2 meters but one step back at 3 meters is inconsistent, which tells me my technique is wrong. I will keep working grip and early release. I have been throwing rotational for years and breaking away from that might be difficult. You have definitely taught me more about blade control and the essence of knife throwing. Thanks again man. I appreciate you taking the time @@joelholopainen6865
