I absolutely love this song -- and as a youngster I always thought the middle bridge was sung by a female singer.

I was blessed to see Harry many times in Boston back in the 70's. This song brings back wonderful memories and is a bit bittersweet since it was my deceased wife's favorite song. Our singalong parties were legendary, and Taxi was always the last song on the turntable.

This song was written , arranged , set up etc in entirety by Ian Tyson whom i was well aquainted with through the 70s & 80s . Because Slyvia didnt gave the viice range to carry this song , Ian & Slyvia GAVE tgis song complete to their good friend Judy Collins . All she had to suppy was her choice of band In the pics 1 can notice Steven Stills whom Judy gad dated around tgis time & also 1 pic mayve 2 of song writer " Charles Manson"

I met him and we had a short talk after a set in 1973. We had a couple of beers and enjoyed the other groups preforming. Always liked his sound.

A brilliant musical genius. A man of compassion and understanding. He helped many. May his memory never be lost. In a world of hate and fear. He was a shining light. Love the guy.

The year is 1972, I', driving in my just bought first car and I turned on the radio and this is the first song I heard. It has been my number one favorite song for all those years, and strangely, Harry Chapin seems to be singing my life. On top of that, all of the women I have ever loved all seemed to love this song. So raise your glasses for a toast to one of America's greatest, if not THE greatest, Balladeers, Harry Chapin.
