I'm by profession a CNC machinist and mechanical tradesman most of my working carrier at 46yo . To get to my point, the way you explained this shows how intelligent you are and extremely diverse in your mechanical comprehension based on the terminology you use whilst explaining the process is very systematically comprehensive and as a result you made this simplictic. FYI: The little piece of half-moon steel is the key. The grooves & notches it registers in are the key ways. You do not install a keyway, it is already there, but you do install the key.... Now, enjoy the ride....
