My Alocasia is gone far too big can i cut a leaf or 2 off and will that do harm to the plant
@wkay412421 күн бұрын
Love the video, those corallina leaves are huge 😊 Unfortunately I am in my begonia era at the moment, and am full to the gills with begonia info so forgive me for saying, but typically people largely categorise begonia into three groups - rhizomatous eg rex begonia; tuberous, which form little tubers / "potatoes" / caudeces in the soil, a more prominent example would be begonia dregei or what's commonly referred to as bedding begonias, and people often treat these as annuals and store the tubers over winter; and then the last is fibrous, where the roots don't form a rhizome or tuber, and are more fibrous, like most regular houseplants, cane begonias are in this category. Hope that wasn't too much of an info dump 😅

My Maculata is fabulous as well! I noticed the coloring of the leaves started diminishing with the more sun it gets. I like it when its has darker leaves, so I need to find another spot for it during the winter months. I am growing a baby begonia and propagating it for OOMF and it needs 100% humidity to do that in my experience, but my adults do not.
@indoorplanthings21 күн бұрын
Maculatas are just such an easy going plant right!? Oooh do you mean your adult plants sprout babies easily? Some of my smaller ones in this video are starting to sprout new shoots but my maculata has never done that!
@LeafyConversations21 күн бұрын
@ hmm, no at least not yet they do not. 🌱 Back in the spring I bought two Angel Wing Begonia’s from the Green Escape. Anyone who has bought there knows their baby plants. One died due to just being in terrible shape when I got it, but the other one is a White Ice Begonia. It managed to survive, but it was just one stem. I cut off a leaf to propagate it in its own dirt without putting it into my “humidity case”, it died not long after. Then I tried it again with about 4 stems and put it into my case and it’s done phenomenal! I only lost one from rot, but the other 3 have rooted and kept most of their leaves. I may do a video on it.

From AI: ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response, which is a tingling or static-like sensation that some people experience in response to specific audio or visual stimuli. The tingling can start on the scalp and spread to the neck, spine, or limbs. Some people report feeling calm, relaxed, sleepy, or well-being when experiencing ASMR.

I don’t use Moss layers, but I use Tree Fern and Peet Moss (100% Sphagnum Moss grinded up) mixed with bark, perlite and charcoal. I have repotted all my Alocasia’s into Naked Root Planters I actually have a video on it if your interested in seeing it. The only downfall I see is water sitting in these reservoirs to long bring mosquitoes 😮….so now I have to refill them every 2 days and only put in 1/2 inch of water so they have access to it and it then can dry out. Always something. All that said, I 100% agree with this video these plants and Anthurium want moisture.

@@poeticplants Hello! 🤗 Thanks for watching! I think that fear is warranted with any variegated plant really. If you are concerned, try to buy one that has a good amount of variegation initially. If the leaves do start to produce non variegated leaves then cut back on the stem to where there is more prominent variegation and start again. It's always a gamble with variegated plants, I think that makes it fun though haha. You never know what each leaf will produce. Hope you end up getting one and it grows well for you!! 🫶🏼

I love cats and I love dogs. As long as they don’t disturb the plants they are great. Do you ever cut the stem of your alocasias? I cut the stem on the first green velvet I had and put her next to it in pon when it wasn’t that big. I was surprised she made it. Four or five new plants grew from the bottom of the stem and the other one just kept on growing. So cool :) But if you are going to repot the plant anyways why not burying it deeper. You can always cut the stem when it’s longer and has roots all the way without taking any risks. To grow corms I put them in glass with fluval stratum and put the jars inside a big clear sealed plastic container, same height as yours but a bit wider. I’ve got two of those in a shelf with light above. I’ve had those for a year or so and there is a layer of water at the bottom of the container around the jars just by the condensation created over time 😂 I just don’t use any lids on the glass jars. I believe fluval has this little insects that feed on bacteria and fungus which is so cool. Or maybe they are beneficial insects from last year, but I’ve heard those long insects are pretty common on fluval stratum. I’ve also got some corms in one of those seed trays with a lid in perlite, but I think they will take longer to sprout because they aren’t sealed as tight. Thanks a lot for the video! Love the way you pot your alocasias! Have to remember to try it sometime :)
@indoorplanthings3 ай бұрын
Haha yes, as long as a cat or dog doesn't destroy the plants 😆 I haven't cut the stem yet on this one! I probably will next repot because it's getting long. I'm just hesitant because I don't want it to lose it's root supply. Very cool about the baby plants though! I hope that happens when I chop the stem I haven't ever used fluval before! I wonder if those little bugs are springtails? I get those on my spaghnum moss. They are good little guys to have around 😁 Thanks again for always watching and for your support! 💚💚💚
