i had the original game as a kid and adored it. my parents got it for me cuz it was basically THE game to get an artistic kid with a DS. unfortunately, i had a very bad habit of losing ds cartridges and i think this was one of them as i have no solid memories of it past the first 2 worlds, maybe a bit of the third. the thing that got me the most hooked was its story and art style tho, i was always thinking about this game in some way shape or form when i was younger so i was really upset when i lost it. i did remember seeing ads for the spongebob one and i thought it looked kinda funny but knew that there was no way it had anything to do with the story of the first game so i was ultimately uninterested. i now sit here in my mid 20's completely flabbergasted that there was a sequel to this long lost favorite of mine the entire time. i have no idea how i never found out until this video, i first clicked on it expecting to only be about the first game and maybe a quick aside about the spongebob one. im still kinda shocked that i never knew about this but not as shocked as i am with how brutal the second game is. im kicking myself for not having heard about this when i was younger. knowing what i liked then and what i like now, i feel like the second game would have been a landmark title for my younger self even more than the first game already was, had i known about it. i guess thats just how these things go. the second games story has me completely blown away honestly and i kinda want to see if i can find a physical version of it now to finally experience it firsthand myself. all this time its been waiting for me and i never even knew...

i played the second game when it came out, so i was probably quiet young. my mum found me sobbing in my room unable to breathe because of how hard I was crying. I had got particularly attached to Jowee and that ending crushed me, i think about this a lot.

I used to watch fawfuls minion all the time when I was a kid and did listen to the original upload of a one are you when it came out. I was also a big creepypasta/horror buff so I ate it up. I remember liking it but it didn’t stick with me for whatever reason. I think I was starting to hit my “this is all cringe” contrarian era. But ultimately the details just left my mind. But I came across that animation of it like 4 months ago and was like “wow that reminds me of that one fawfuls minion story” and didn’t think much further on it lol. Now at the end of this video I have a lot more appreciation for that story and how intimate it is

I like the theme of returning. The people burying the body have to return, because the body has also returned. That's why they have to mark something and why they need a shovel, why you defeat the boss which looks like the corpse and why it can't beat you, and why they have to talk with someone, and why it's called "returnal." This is also my personal explanation for why the body looks so ghastly and inhuman; it's decomposed, possibly even mutated since it's come back to life. The light in the image? That's the place they marked, as a lure for it. It's so afraid of the dark after being entombed in it that it crawls to the light. And why does Sonic become the body after waiting for long enough? Because he, too, decomposes.
