An excellent review and I too purchased one 2 years ago and it's okay, perfect for my Kawasaki KLR 650 and the Royal Enfield Classic 500. On mine a couple of the bolt threads were stripped out and no big issue with repairing them. I'd like to replace the white bottom bump stops with a better material that isn't affected by the 6 hot months.

Do you use the clutch when going up and down the gearbox when resetting the transmission
@TheBikeStig26 күн бұрын
@@WynandVanEeden-k1k Advice given to me is that during that first ride you do, use both quick shifter and clutched gear changes through all of the gears. If you only use the quickshifter during the relearning period, the bike will adapt specifically to quickshifter operations. This might be sufficient if you always ride using the quickshifter. However, the gearbox will lack adaptations for clutched gear changes, which could result in: - Slightly less smooth clutched shifts and Poor performance in situations where clutched shifting is required, such as starting from a stop or slow-speed riding. Hope that helps.

if it's an S1000RR like mine, that will be the DDC light indicating it is not working. Unless the DDC is removed from the system, any move to a non DDC suspension results in the warning light coming on indicating a fault. I dont worry about mine, I just live with it as it doesn't do anything.

That school, which can be found all around the world, is Iyengar Yoga. Since the school's inception about 90 years ago by BKS Iyengar the focus has remained on the application of technique and the development of depth awareness from the gross to the very subtle. Just a question. Why the measure was taken with the wheel off the ground? Considering off the ground means jump so no need for suspension intervention. Isn't more logical to take measure by lifting the bike up without leaving the ground?

its the easiest way to measure the fully extended length without any effect of bike weight before we measure how much the suspension sags with bike weight and rider weight applied

That's probably a bit harsh ... I definitely agree about the misalignment. I actually fixed mine to close out the dark patch between low beam and high beam and that made it way more useful. it’s for doing the tire size change without altering the chassis geometry with the stock shock because you can’t adjust its length. with an aftermarket shock id still start with the spacer rather than shock length because it won’t alter the linkage angle as much as shock length would.
@TheBikeStig2 ай бұрын
that makes sense, appreciate you mentioning it, something I hadn't thought about.

Love this kind go topic. Geometry changes and the effects. I've got an 20R which use 15-18RR chassis with a tad less steering head angle. Got aftermarket in it. I lengthened shock by 4mm and raised front by dropping forks from 2 lines showing (oem) to 1 only. With the front oem height and longer shock it felt like the front wheel was 1/2 metre back, and was too eager to lean and need too much lean for not so fast cornering. So rising the meat some and front less it is working very well.
@TheBikeStig2 ай бұрын
it's definitely an interesting topic, one that has kind of caught my eye of late. Lucky for me I can still go and talk to some real experts and get advice which is what most people should do.
@deelee30502 ай бұрын
Yes,,,, you weren't believe just how many people don't understand nor try to understand. If you don't INITIATE counter steering, then you are just reacting to your bike turning in, instead actually setting up the bike to turn. Reactive < Initiate. Later on when the rider gets faster and faster, they will always go wide as their body position can't keep up with the turning changes. However, if you INITIATE the CS yourself, you know how and when its going to happen - hence your body position /mind and everything else is ready before turning changes happen.
@TheBikeStig2 ай бұрын
definitely a topic not taught well at the ride schools for people wanting to get a motorcycle license, but I guess the problem doesn't really reveal itself until a rider starts to add speed beyond just commuting through town.

I thought the BMW s1000rr only uses 190, not 200? Anyway if the factory chose 190 it would be for a reason. Cant imagine them not using a better profile if available to them. Im not an expert by the way, just commenting off basic owners assumption.
@TheBikeStig2 ай бұрын
The BMW HP option is for a 200 wide rear. Unless you are buying a special limited series of race bike, a bike is built to do a certain job (commuting and spirited range riding perhaps) and are fitted with components that will do that job. When it comes to riding a bike at much higher speeds on a race track, then there are always upgrades that can be installed that will increase the potential performance of the motorcycle. Everything has to be built at a cost, they are just trying to make bikes affordable, in the case of the standard 190 cast wheel, that is not as expensive as the 200 on forged rims, but it does the normal job just fine. This particular bike performs a lot better than a standard bike, but who wants to spend 60 to 90 grand on a bike which is what it would cost to build this one. Cheers mate

Try suspending the wheel with cords on BOTH axle ends, then put weight on one side. The gyroscopic precession will turn the wheel TOWARD that weight. That is acually how MC's work. This precludes ANY counter-steering! The GP demonstrated by Bozeman shows this clearly!
@TheBikeStig3 ай бұрын
That would be correct, a downward weight on one side makes the plane of the wheel turn 90 degrees to the downward pressure. Crazy how this works.

Hi Jorge,I've just come across your channel and have liked and subscribed. What you described about the dual compound sports tyres with the soft shoulders is spot on. I have tried Michelin Power GP's and its predecessor around Eastern Creek, and the soft shoulders have just shredded, like they are too soft for track work but good for fast road riding. Did you end up trying the M9RR's on track? I'm interested to know how they held up. I have a current model Suzuki GSXS 1000, stock standard and was doing 1.49's at the Creek on the stock standard Dunlop Roadsports, on a 35 degree day, the tyres held up and wore well. For the next track day I tried the Michelin Power GP's , another 35 degree day, same suspension settings and still did the same times, but the rear tyre looked horrible and was spinning a lot on the sides. I dropped the pressure further and it was worse, and went slower. What would you recommend tyre wise, I only do 3 or 4 track days a year, the rest of my riding is in the twistiest like Macquarie Pass and the Putty, no touring or commuting.
@TheBikeStig3 ай бұрын
@@michaelmckenna2882 I have ridden on the M9RRs on track mate, we have them fitted to the superbike school hire bikes and I did some laps at Phillip Island and also Broadford on the S1000R naked, they did a great job. Just have to keep in mind that you can’t do the same thing with trail braking and throttle application at higher lean angles like you could do with super sport tyres or slicks, but if that is not a concern then they will perform quite well in my opinion. We dont run M9s on the coach bikes at the school as the pace is a bit different … down in the lower 40s at eastern creek .. so we use Racetec RRs
@TheBikeStig3 ай бұрын
One more thing, just keep in mind these are more sport touring oriented, for me I am more inclined to go down the hyper sport pathway for tyres … again it depends on how hard you are going to ride
