This review is great! Idk how you resisted going more in depth. I think your main gripe with the remake is the new Maria. That's totally fair tbh, I do think Maria is still really good but I don't think anyone was ever going to top the all time masterclass performance of the original Maria. I think it's probably the best voice acting performance I've heard in a video game. The ending monologue especially is just so perfect in it's raw emotional delivery that it hits hard every time I replay the game. I think it was genuinely be impossible to recapture that magic try as they might.

Atlus need to re release SMT and SMT II with new graphics and the press turn system. I felt in love with the franchise after IV, played both Devil Survivor, IVA and both Vs, but can't play the first two due lack of localization and no press turn. :/

I'm down for full on remakes or ports of the original with some quality of life changes. Atlus' re-releases can be very all over the place, so I'm lowkey scared of what they'd do with it. Sorry (not sorry) but I would not, in good faith, say that Overwatch has "incredible art direction, storytelling and interesting world". Maybe it's because it's been many years but the art direction doesn't feel all that outstanding, and in terms if storytelling and world... Like c'mon, the world is just "near future with generic robot rights issue" and we don't even know _why_ the bad guy org does what it does. You can say what you want about TF2 but your statement about Overwatch feels much more applicable to its predecessor.

I think that last of us needed a remake. It was fine, but part 2 showed us how outdated it was. Yes, horizon remastered and last of us 2 remastered shouldn't exist. But overall, remakes make good because why would you put dlc on an old game, when there wasn't dlc for years?
@airem58619 күн бұрын
Yep is money, but is I see it as a necessary evil to move forward. Example ask yourself why last gen capcom at the start was all remasters? The didn't have the money because of the bad spending of the PS3/360 the dark era thanks to all those remasters selling well they were able to get out of the hole and make new games. I know people hate Remakes and Remasters but sometimes is necessary in order to see if gamers are still interested in the franchise before doing another entry in the series. I dont mind Remakes as long as they are executed well like RE2, RE4, Shadow of the Colossus, Dead Space Remake, SH2R, even now with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, etc. Games are becoming almost unsustainable and good remakes can made some franchise remain alive. Last example thanks yo Onimusha Remastered selling well and telling Capcom we still love the series we got another entry coming this year, all I hope i get remastered versions of Onimusha 2 & 3.

Games should have comparisons so that future games and existing IPs (both AAA and Indie) can learn from, evolve from, and improve on what worked and didn't the first time. I'd rather have a game focus on being good AND executing an idea well than be innovative for "innovation." Only bring a franchise back when it's _ready_ to return (Baldur's Gate 3, Metroid Dread, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, etc.). Not every game needs a sequel, or a remake.

Personally the idea that remakes are what‘s ruining the industry is just such a wrong take, it‘s the over corporatization of the industry, the publishers poking their noses where the shouldnt and hampering the art. Remakes are fine, remasters are fine, they arent just for nostalgia, theyre to make the game more accessible, to give a cult classic a second chance at the recognition it deserves, and to make pretty games. They also are less than 1% of games being made, usually made by devs who specialized in remaking or remastering a game instead of the original studio. How do we fix this? We dont, it doesnt need to be fixed. what needs to be fixed is people buying games they hate just so that they can complain about them. What needs to be fixed it the perception that the only games that matter are the ones made by ea, ubisoft, bethesda, sony, or microsoft. Capcom for one puts out banger after banger, go give their games a try

True, Crash, Mass Effect and even Tomb Raider are such great games that having even a minor graphically updated re-release is amazing since new generation can get exposed to those masterpieces and older one has a fresh take on a classic.
@lohiboi633110 күн бұрын
Ok but how long can they keep going? There are only so many games with enough of a nostalgia factor to be remade. Some remakes do utulize modern technology to improve upon the previous iteration significantly but a remake of a remake would be pointless. Sure graphics might improve but gameplay is king now a days and graphics come second, as can be seen with popular games that use retro or simpler styles. I'd argue this wave of remakes will pass eventually.
