Uncovering another TVR Vixen Project! Engine swap time?...

When an opportunity for a TVR Vixen project arises you don't turn it down!
This one has great potential but I think an engine swap would make it a bit more stand out.
What engine would you fit if you were going to restore it?...

Very cool little car! Firstly sack the old push rod motor off (even though it holds oil better than mine!) A few suggestions: 1.6 mx5 with a turbo - its shorter in height than a 1.8 but not much bigger in length/width to the 1600 thats in it but 30 more brake as it is and theyre peanuts to buy. 4age as you have one and very cool - apparenlty based on the cosworth BDA which used the 1600 block thats in it. Throw an rx8 box on it and off you go. Rotary - you can use a megasquirt to run them. Sack the gauges etc off and run modern smiths so nobody would notice till you fire it up S2000 would be cool but thats a tall engine too. Jaguar 3l v6, cheap and understressed as theyre never revved. Rocketeer do kits to use that engine in mx5s V8 cos v8!

Hands down, the world’s most in depth KZbin reply… from a fellow KZbinr! I think I would’ve torn between wankel and 4age… but v8 is a hard thing to turn down! But it has already been done in this car… 50 years ago, so far from original 😂. P.s the thought of using smiths gauges appeals a lot #sleeper

How about an in period upgrade, Ford V8 vixen / Griffith ? Other V8 options ? Any engine change other than a Pinto is a lot of work, so why not go big and keep the TVR spirit.

I quite like that idea to be fair. Nice cross plane v8 burble, bags of torque from idle, it’s going on the options list!

@@Resto.Nation If you wanted an MX5 or MR2 engine then why didn't you buy an MX5 or MR2 ??? A Crossflow modified with a fast road cam and twin side draught carbs will give you about 130bhp and be a really nice, reliable & usable car. Changing the engine for a modern unit will ruin it. Next you'll be fitting an auto box, digital speedo, LED lights and furry dice - no idea !

Thanks for your reply. I just don’t like fords being honest. I don’t think I would go manual but I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of fluffy dice just yet…

I’ve been doing some reading and the 4age is a very exciting option… and I’m tripping over one in the garage 😉
