Did you take off the oil cooler and dumped it ? How did the water pump attack the oil cooler ? Why are you calling the orange thing an engine when it’s more like a bucket in the ground

Hopefully you can lead me in the right direction here. Both the tops bolts are tight but the back bottom one keeps spinning and won’t tighten. I noticed that you took a bracket out but I don’t have that same bracket. Would that be causing the bolt not to tighten or do you think it’s stripped from inside the block?

Mk3 harness- strip all engine wiring except battery fuse box positive, Battery negative, wiper harness, we also kept brake level coolant level and washer motor pump. & all lighting harness's. everything else was stripped. MK4 harness- stripping extra connectors is optional. (sai n249, egr, ac , cooling fans) with our swap we ran a Stand alone cooling fan system to get rid of the commonly failed fan module. No A/C.

@quesnoy1342

Quick question. If the front balance shaft has seized, would it also prevent the water pump from working? I'm having a "zero" oil pressure problem. Before the problem began, however, my engine began vibrating (not idling rough) but vibrating the way it would if you had a broken engine mount. I found the dogbone/transmission mount had failed, but after replacing it, the engine was still vibrating. Before I replace the rest of the engine mounts, I'm trying to figure out if my oil pressure and vibration problems are balance shaft related. I assume the engine would lock up if a balance shaft seized but I suppose the sprocket could just shear off and the engine would still run but not be balanced. Thoughts?
@Weissworx
@Weissworx 4 ай бұрын
Good evening. If the belt has snapped off the back side it would cause the waterpump failure. With a failing balance shaft you would or could have oil pressure issues and. Vibrations. I would pull the timing belt cover off and take a look to see if the belt is intact.
@quesnoy1342
@quesnoy1342 4 ай бұрын
it's a tsi. Timing chains, not belts. I think I'm gonna check the motor mounts before anything else. If one or both are bad, I replace those. Then, if vibration is fixed, I'll replace oil pump. If that doesn't fix the low pressure, I'm gonna sell the car as a project. I've already replaced the timing chain tensioner once. If I have to dig that deep into this engine again, it's not worth the hassle.@@Weissworx
@Weissworx
@Weissworx 4 ай бұрын
@quesnoy1342 Even on a tsi, there is a small belt that drives the water pump. When ro you see an oil light
@quesnoy1342
@quesnoy1342 4 ай бұрын
correct. I've changed the water pump belt within the last couple years. The car did not overheat when the vibration first started. And I drove it at least 30 miles before I got home. So I assume at least the front side balance shaft did not fail. It could also be some RTV bits blocking the oil pickup. VW really screwed up by using RTV instead of O rings on many seals.@@Weissworx

Hey, what happened to me is, i have set the torque wrench to 20 nm, had a friend holding all his weight onto the wrench on the exhaust cam + the locking plate helping locking the cams, and still couldn't rich that click on the torque wrench. Bolt strated to strip so i just left it as is, i guess is tight enough. Didn't want to completely strip the head of the bolt, whats your thoughts about this? Cheers
@Weissworx
@Weissworx 6 ай бұрын
First off, I would verify the calibration of your torque wrench, if all is well id replace the bolt, if its stripped, over time that bolt will be harder and harder to remove. Then, you will get to the point of where we were in this video.
@adhizzle9985
@adhizzle9985 6 ай бұрын
dang you guys cut that thing off? if you removed the battery/bat cover you could've drilled it 3-5mm slightly into the bolt head and then smash a T60 torx on it and remove it that way. those cam adjusters are expensive as sht for oem
@Weissworx
@Weissworx 6 ай бұрын
That was the initial plan, But it was to late to go to the store to get some good drill bit, Also, the phaser sheared the alignment pin. that was the whole reason is was in the shop.

oh I see, that's crazy! mine is still fine at 260k miles. no drill bit in that big ole shop? i used a milwaukee 3/8 on 3 poly-bolts and it's still fine. for the chain alignment aren't you supposed to put the brass link on the intake cam sprocket marking, count 17 'dots' and put 18/19 link between the adjuster timing mark on the back? some guides mention this, some don't which is what i find weird. the locking cam tool doesn't lock them 100%, my intake cam seems to be off a degree but i dont know if i can fix it without taking the chain off. seems to not budge with all my manpower lol@@Weissworx

When i honed, like you, the cylinders on my mk2 jetta, old rings had 0.4-0.5mm gap, original engine with 200k km. After some km maybe 1000km, disassembled again, and the rings were over 0.6mm gap. So my honing did worse, the finish wore down the rings in very few km. I am curious how much oil does it burn after this repair.
@Weissworx

We have put almost 20k on the mk7 since the rebuild, oil consumption is around half a qt between oil changes. Well within tolerance. Sold the car to our buddy 4 months ago. It is now his daily and hasn't had a issue. Although after others advice. The last few motors we have built. We slowed the drill down and slowed the strokes, so the cross hatch angle is more with in spec.

"Borsehung Germany" ? I live in germany, work in the automotive industry and own my own small shop. And Ive never heard of this brand. 😄 Regarding the repair: I think you did a pretty good job on the repair. But if you replace the chains its strongly recommended to replace the chain gears, too. Because the chain gears wear in, too and they wear wrongly if the old chain was already stretched (a bit).
