MK7 GTI Engine Rebuild Pt.3 - Timing Chains and Oil Pans

We're rebuilding the actual best deal ever mk7. It's a 2015 Volkswagen GTI with leather interior and a DSG. I think this is the first gen 3 TSI engine build series, so follow along with us. We install upper and lower oil pans, the oil pump, timing chains and timing covers in this video.

Connecting rod torque. Is 45nm plus 90 degrees

When i honed, like you, the cylinders on my mk2 jetta, old rings had 0.4-0.5mm gap, original engine with 200k km. After some km maybe 1000km, disassembled again, and the rings were over 0.6mm gap. So my honing did worse, the finish wore down the rings in very few km. I am curious how much oil does it burn after this repair.

We have put almost 20k on the mk7 since the rebuild, oil consumption is around half a qt between oil changes. Well within tolerance. Sold the car to our buddy 4 months ago. It is now his daily and hasn't had a issue. Although after others advice. The last few motors we have built. We slowed the drill down and slowed the strokes, so the cross hatch angle is more with in spec.

Hey. Nice build. I am trying to fix one of these. The problem is it was picked up by a forklift before and the forks have broken the oil pan and probably damaged the oil pump. I tried to measure oil pressure and I am getting around 5 psi which is very low compared to ~20 psi. The oil pump looks good and I am not noticing any scratches or broken parts. I also noticed there is small piece of metal that looks like it was broken, but it is behind the oil pump which makes no sense. Do you have any suggestions or reasons why I might of got it broken or if the bottom block skirt can me bend or damaged?

Hey Tim, how long was the motor sitting before you got it?

@@Weissworx Not sure how long but at least two months I think. However, I probably did find the problem why I am getting low oil pressure. The oil filter housing adapter was broken when the filter was changed and I have already ordered it and will be testing it in a bit. However, a small piece of metal that was missing behind the oil pump is still a mystery to me because it is inside the block, there is nothing that is touching it, and there was no signs of broken metal in the oil pan or anywhere near

My engine block has a hole as well as the upper oil pan , do you guys recommend I just get another engine or is it cheaper to rebuild it ?

In your situation I would suggest find another motor.

2:45 the piece of metal is missing right under the number 14 which is right on top of the oil pump

@@Weissworx yeah. I’ll send you some pictures tomorrow. I also think that due to the low oil pressure the oil filter housing adapter creates, the head-cams run a little bit roughly so I try to run the car as minimal as possible.
