i haven't seen the full video, but if it's using a carburetor, not a fuel injector, i don't know why there'd be any doubt, whatsoever...

That old gas would work fine in my 20 old Toro.... but not in my new one. The plastic carburetor is rubbish!

interesting video. I recently purchased an elan and found it to be fitted with inboard UJ's and outboard doughnuts. I had never seen this setup before. Now i know they are Vegantune parts. Though, mine are fitted opposite to your car. My UJ's are inboard (diff end) and the doughnuts at the uprights.

Couple of points: Standard Lotus bolts for the hub carrier to wishbone connection had half height heads to improve the clearance with the wheel. Despite thiese, it was still tight. Secondly, I noticed your knock on threads appear to be greased. They should not be greased or lubricated at all. Dry only (which reduces the chance they will come off in use).

I tried to start my old jag today. Its a 79 v12 series 2. Last time it ran was 2020. Wouldnt fire. Took the fuel line off and saw the oetrol was orange. Iron bru colour from rusted tanks. I poured a bit on the floor and tried to light it. Struggled to get it to ignite. So I directed the fuel line into a gas cannister, fired up after a few turns. Old fuel no good

Probably due to water contamination, filter that out then try it again.

I was looking for a video in which the car was painted, but couldn't find one. May I ask whether the paint shop re-gel-coated the fiberglass body or, if not, how was the repaint done?

It’s not been repainted yet but it will require re-gelcoating before painting

I have an Elan +2 in which there are areas that I've repaired that are without gel coat. However, it's my understanding that gel coat won't dry when exposed to air so how will that be resolved? I'm unclear how to deal with these areas.

I have the same problem with my 435i. I had the right side fixed at a shop a couple of years back. This time I am going to fix the left side by myself after watching your video. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Might work to run an lawnmower with 20 year old gasoline but i doubt that current gasoline with 10% ethanol and im almost certain it wont run a car.

@@munky2k the reason I watched your vid was because I used some 6-7 year old fuel I siphoned out of and old Ute I don’t use. I needed to run my generator and that was the only fuel I had as I’m out bush you could say. The generator ran fine on it. I turned the geni off that night but could not start it again the next day. After an investigation-zero compression ,head off etc. The reason for no compression is a slightly bent intake valve stem. I have combed the internet and cannot find another situation like this. I think the old fuel gummed up the valve and then the piston has knocked it. Sucks balls big time. It’s a very expensive inverter geni and I’m having trouble getting parts. By a new one I’m told. I commented on your vid out of frustration and thought -I wished you’d run the mower until at least the old fuel you put in had made it to the engine. It obviously has now. Good luck with it. Thanks

These are back in in Lidl, bought one yesterday still same problem ended up cutting 1/2 inch of each of the rods it’s fine now

Was going g to send mine back because of the twisting. Strangely, the manufacturers reckon they've not had problems! Swapped in store, tried three altogether, same problem with every one. Ended up cutting a good inch of each tube (I now have 11 metal rings leftover! ).

Have you got a non sped up version? I can't make out anything. You are the only content creator that's showing how to build this one. Don't know how others can understand it. Even when you slow it doen its to blurry.

Assembly is simple - once you cut an inch off each arm of the frame. Long tubes go in the long sides, short tubes in each end. The 4 corner supports will only fit one way, with the longer of the 3 openings facing down. This gives each corner brace a small hole on top to insert the 4 shade supports. The shade has 4 arms plus a central crossbar, all connected with a couple of 3 way T shaped brackets. The 2 arms from each side connect to the top of the T piece with the crossbar connecting the two pieces

Hi Malcolm, I have this issue on my 2014 435. Bought the parts and same plug was shorted. Assembled according to the video. Issue is the larger bulb wasn't going off for turn signal. The smaller bulb was going off for brake light. I though maybe I swapped the wires in error so switched the only two that I thought I could have gotten wrong (of the three prong set the middle and outer). So now the smaller bulb goes off for both brake light and turn light and the larger bulb does nothing. Which is an improvement but not ideal. Any ideas what might be going on?

Not a good title. That is nothing like the original Lotus Chassis. Just built to fit within the original body. I agree with the other person who commented that adjustment of the rear suspension was just an opportunity to set it wrong.

Thanks for the video, I did this today for the first time ever, my only gripe not unless I missed it on the instructions of the kit was how long to leave the product on for, couldn’t see it anywhere and it says “don’t leave on more than the required time” or something to that effect.

Never put the body flat on the floor. The lowest point is the fuel tank mounting bolt, and that can stove it in.

I’ve just picked up a brand new Spyder chassis that was sold in 1990. This helps me identify a lot of it, seeing as how this frame and an Elan Manual are the only pieces I have at the moment and will be building from there

Apart from the fact i was nearly sick watching the camera work…. I watched this after having put mine together - and yes i had to take a good 1” off each of the poles to prevent the crazy twisting. This is 2022 so they are still selling them with this clear design flaw. The top does not cover anywhere near as well as it is shown in the photos on the box - so far less shade - again for £20 it is worth modifying the top with addition of a mesh screen to add a bit more shade while not restricting the airflow.
