Not sure if you were going for sorta black or wanting pure black but India Ink will stain wood to the deepest pure black you can make.

Why not pour it on and just use your hand and then any access use the sponge brush soak it up

It needs to be buffed in with the foam brush. The excess gets cleaned up with the white rag 5-10 minutes later

It's not sandpaper, it's a hardwood floor white pad. And I don't always use this method, a white rag by hand works also

I saw a lot of white oak, but it’s like my least favorite hardwood. I like to use Ash instead. Knotty Alder is okay but it isn’t local to us and it’s kind of soft.

Hi. I'm a welder, and I replace warn out fireplaces on wooden boilers especially with gaseification with new sheet panels within 6 to 8 mm thick, sort of complete restoration, but that fireplace that you just patch it is compromised and is very thin. Will run for a while, but for a lifetime repair you need to remove every outside panel to reach the fireplace and then replace every piece with new even thicker sheet and then test it with compressed air for leaks, maximum 6 bar. I repaired maybe 20 boilers within 20 to 70 kw power. Good luck!

Hey thanks! It sure is nice to finally be able to heat my buildings efficiently. Hah ya that video of me chucking in the big rounds was mostly for effect. I’ve been burning sawmill scrap and sawdust mainly in this unit. Sometimes smaller log chunks when it gets really cold.

I did the exact same with the ink bird to monitor temps. Do you find it to pretty accurate? I added some inline thermostats and man they are great..dead on with my boiler.

Ya the inkbird works good. I just wrapped them to the outside of the pex. Close enough to the correct temperature.
