Salvaging a 36” wide burr oak tree with my sawmill

I own a business called Hazel Oak Farms. We specialize in building furniture with salvaged wood. We also have a Woodmizer Lt15 wide bandsaw sawmill.
We went and picked up these logs by Muscatine, Iowa. I sawed them on my mill at our new shop. We got over 30 wide slabs from three logs. Still have a few smaller ones to cut.

Love the way you store fresh cut slabs, will yield plenty of high end stock for future. I would if the wood was mine band the stacks during initiial drying to help keep wood at top of stack flat and reduce warping during drying. Ray Stormont

Thanks! It’s nice to be able to dry these big wide slabs inside now. I used to stack them outside with tarps and tie down straps. Hopefully I can get enough weight on them and maybe just strap the top few slabs

Nicely done. How thick are most of ur slabs?

Thank you! I've been cutting most of these thick slabs at a full 10/4 or 2.5" thick. It leaves a full 2" slab after drying, planing, and sanding.

@@HazelOakFarms thanks, that is helpful. Currently I have an Alaskan mill (Stilh 880), have some lumber dry enough to sell.... am eyeing a bandsaw when I save up the cash from sales of what is dry

I'm counting about 1200 board feet of these wide 10/4 slabs so far. And I still have one more big one to cut, and a dump trailer load of the smaller stuff.
