Hi. I'm a welder, and I replace warn out fireplaces on wooden boilers especially with gaseification with new sheet panels within 6 to 8 mm thick, sort of complete restoration, but that fireplace that you just patch it is compromised and is very thin. Will run for a while, but for a lifetime repair you need to remove every outside panel to reach the fireplace and then replace every piece with new even thicker sheet and then test it with compressed air for leaks, maximum 6 bar. I repaired maybe 20 boilers within 20 to 70 kw power. Good luck!

7:36 The stove is obviously not insulated very well from the factory since the back of the stove sheet metal paint is burnt. I'd take that back sheet metal off in the summer and inspect inside to see If that burnt lower corner even has any insulation. Once the paint is off the metal it will rust and eventually have holes in the metal and end up being a rats nest in the summer which can cause the stove to catch on fire on the outside of the burn box in the winter.

You can put a plate heat exchanger for your hot water used in the house.

Planning on adding that soon. Also a big wood Kiln and possibly an old hot tub.

Is it normal to have smoke coming out the bottom of the chimney area? 7:30-7:40 time stamp area or was there some kind of down draft taking the smoke straight down?

Looks good for cold NY winters, few of my neighbors have these, but your video made me think - what about all that electric? 3 circulation pumps running 24/7, large fan blower on the door - how much amperage are all these things eating?
@HazelOakFarms Жыл бұрын
Yep it has been good for our cold Iowa winters as well. I ran it all of last winter, and have been running for the past month. The fan blower in the door only runs about half of the time, and doesn't take too much electricity. However the three pumps do take a fair amount of electricity. I think we figured about $1 a day per pump. So it can add up, but still way cheaper than our A/C units in the summer.

great video and great boiler - a nice thing to have. Hope you can find some mechanical advantage to load the big rounds and save your back.

Hey thanks! It sure is nice to finally be able to heat my buildings efficiently. Hah ya that video of me chucking in the big rounds was mostly for effect. I’ve been burning sawmill scrap and sawdust mainly in this unit. Sometimes smaller log chunks when it gets really cold.

I did the exact same with the ink bird to monitor temps. Do you find it to pretty accurate? I added some inline thermostats and man they are great..dead on with my boiler.
@HazelOakFarms Жыл бұрын
Ya the inkbird works good. I just wrapped them to the outside of the pex. Close enough to the correct temperature.

Ya it's not bad. But I wish I was setup better to make firewood. I need a skidloader and splitter

How long did it take to burn the huge block that you were throwing in at the start of the video?
@HazelOakFarms Жыл бұрын
That was a video from late last December. I think the 3/4 load of those logs lasted all day

Glad it’s working well for you You are losing much efficiency by letting ash buildup Approx 15-20 sq ft of steel cant transfer heat to water My method When low rake everything forward Plunge underneath for ash Shake coals off to the left or right Dump ash in shovel Continue to mostly coals remain

You're going to need a LOT of wood supply.

Yep. I have a lot. I have a sawmill and furniture business. It has been running this past month solely on sawmill offcuts and sawdust. But I do have a large pile of Ash firewood I plan on going through this winter.

@@HazelOakFarms I have a Central Boiler 5648 Stainless. It's the next size smaller than yours. I too am heating a fully insulated 36' a 50' 2 story farm house with full basement and have radiant floor heat in the attached 36'x 50 garage + dhw. I've averaged 13 cord in the 20 years I've had mine going. It's my sole source of heat as I haven't turned the furnace on since. I just stumbled on your channel and thought this was your first year with it. I have land and neighbors who let me cut and it is a lot of work but I enjoy it. I filled up some of a barn this year and got 70 cord in there.
@Tonnsfabrication11 ай бұрын
This boiler will put a man on a constant hunt for firewood no doubt about it. It seems so innocent until you actually try to find 15+ cords every year at a price worth dealing with it. Thats an assload of firewood, more than most who heat with wood burn in 5 or 6 years.
@kjinohio589711 ай бұрын
@@Tonnsfabrication 3 cord a year to heat a home? That must be in a warmer area than me. Even guys with catalytic stoves and smaller homes use more than that here when using wood for their sole heat source. In a rural area it is not hard to find wood. Just extremely hard to find someone willing to do the work and not create a mess for the landowner who let them cut. If you do a good job and landowners see that, they will be calling you. I did over 80 cord this past summer. All split and stacked indoors now and I did that by myself. It can be done if you have the desire to do so. If you are buying wood at current prices, I can not see how most any stove, in a colder climate, would be cost effective.
