[Original Comment] I have also edited this comment and added a correction- Dedicated & Inspired by my Grandmother. My rhetoric in this video is solely focused on using arguments and language I think will be compelling to conservative leaning folks I believe genuinely have been mis-informed, largely by no fault of their own. Obviously there are many other issues I personally find important for why I also won't vote for Trump but this is a video to show regardless of political affiliation, Trump is objectively the worse of the two front running options. Hope this can help some of the family members you love that you are unsure how to reach. [Correction] I spoke about the respect I have for others who have the strength to revise and admit wrong in the video and it seems I made 2 mistakes in this video! The point of the video was to inform- not misinform so let me add a couple things. 1. On Military Spending it wasn't intentional but the numbers, while included in citation, were left off screen. China spent 291b, India spent 81.36b, and Russia spent 86.37b. Again these are 2022 numbers, so in the case of Russia, they are at active war. These numbers so not change the point I was making as the US still spends 8x as much as Russia and India, and China and America's economy are so intertwined at this point that any direct war would likely ruin both countries regardless- even so we spend more than twice as much as China. 2. On Aid during Covid, Trump did in fact sign in a $1200 and later a $600 check for citizens as well as one for PPP loans. The way I presented things made it seem like the relief I had believed to be under Trump was wrong, but in fact both Trump and Biden released Aid. I am willing to acknowledge mistakes and I hope if you're reading this, agree with me or not, that you will to! Reality is important!
@trace90212 ай бұрын
You can quibble with this point if you want, as attributing Congressional acts to the president's term gets a bit iffy on who deserves credit, but I feel like your second correction is still not quite there either. The original round of stimulus checks were part of the CARES Act, which was pushed largely by House Democrats, since spending bills have to originate in the House and the Democrats controlled the House after 2018. The acute nature of the pandemic and lockdowns basically forced Senate Republicans to vote for it as-is, without resorting to their usual tactics of filibustering the bill to kill it and/or to extract concessions on the final bill, as they knew it would be a bad look for them to be responsible for holding up an aid bill during an unprecedented economic crisis in an election year. Trump just came in at the end and mandated that his signature be added on to the checks, which IIRC actually delayed releasing them by some amount of time.
@armchairknowledge2 ай бұрын
It’s great that you admit your mistake, about the military spending. But you have to remember that those numbers are in US dollars. China has a large PPP advantage, and it could be argued that at this point the spending power, is similar for both countries miltaries.

Oh, no. A few hundred bucks? Oh no, that's horrible. I find it funny. In recovery for 2008, trillions, literally trillions, were printed and given to the people that almost sent the world into the Great Depression 2.0. There were at least five rounds of quantitative easing. That is literally pretty money, giving you to the people who blew everything up. In exchange for the most toxic assets they had that were dragging them down. So, these bankers, these people were making massive profits as the bubble was inflated. Then, everything explodes, almost sending the world's economy into the dustbin, And they get rewarded with trillions more. more deserved massive profits. It's so funny. Where's the inflation from those trillions printed trillions for those bankers who blow everything up? Where's those inflation numbers? Oh, that's right. They can't because the American people are still suffering from the explosion because they weren't able to pay more money. They weren't able to let the greed raise the prices. It's all manufactured. Period. It's all manufactured. It's all being driven by greed and apathy, the two celebrated virtues of capitalism, which in turn is driving the Anthropocene Extinction Event...

I wish this was talked about more. People have the impression that Republicans are all about business and the economy. They trust Trump on the economy, in general. But even a cursory glance at the last 30 years, you will see, Republicans are _awful_ on the economy... unless youre in the top 5%. Conservative economic policies are not only devastating for average people who have to work for a living (as opposed to living off their assets, like wealthy), theyre also totally full of it. They _love_ federal money, so pong as it's going to them. They _love_ the government intervening in the market, so long as it protects their interests. And they freaking _love_ defecit spending. From Reagan onward, every Republican admin and GOP congress has spent lavishly on defecit, usually so they can give a handout to their constituents and donors. These are people who go, "yeah, we can add two trillion to the annual defecit to pay for the 2017 rax code." But when it comes to something like paying for your healthcare, or public education? "Sorry, there's no money. 🙄 its like you dont even understand the economy." It drives me crazy how people dont know this, when the record is so clear. It's a tribute to just how effective the GOP is at lying. They live in dogma, not evidence based decisions (ie, like the false "law" that "lowering taxes always grows the economy." Its just taken as unquestioned fact among conservatives, even though cutting has never once worked to grow the economy in US over the last 45 years. It has grown the wealth of the top 5%, but it has never goosed economic growth).

During the Obama/Biden years we dodged two potential pandemics, but nobody seemed to notice at the time. The first was COVID I, which I contracted at a meeting in Phoenix and thought I was going to die. However, it never became a pandemic. The second was Ebola, a highly lethal virus from Africa. Obama let the health agencies and the doctors deal with these, there were a few cases in the United States. Then Obama did a terribly courageous action and sent US Health teams to the Ebola stricken regions to help curb the disease spread. Ebola sends shudders down the back of anyone that knows the medical consequences of it. The disease was controlled in Africa and the in the US it never became a big problem even though some of those brave health workers who went to Africa contracted it, but got treatment in the US. Compare that to Trumps "political approach" to controlling vial disease.

It blows my mind. The man is the epitome of all things Anti-American. But he is LITERALLY worshiped. It's like Idol culture in Japan in a way. It is bizarre. Historically. Democrats are better for the country in terms of crime reduction and economic prosperity. The reason is the focus on the working and lower classes. When both prosper so does our economy which directly affects the crime rates. When people need less, there is less need for crime. One thing you will hear conservatives and republicans tell us over and over again that facts don't care about your feelings. What they don't tell you is those facts are cherry-picked to avoid hurting THEIR feelings. The ONLY thing that Republicans do better than democrats is restricting the rights of citizens. The want us to ignore the effect of the Pandemic on Trump's presidency but refuse to accept that same pandemic as having an effect on the Biden presidency. Which is still doing better in a lot of regards than Trump pre-pandemic. Make no mistake, these people do not care about facts. Of course Trump is the worst, but I would encourage you to check out these matrix all the way back into the 60's. And problems like the move to fiat currency and the disconnect of GDP to currency in circulation (offset again with stupid national debt), and all the banking and stock market deregulating causing a lot of currency printed out of thin air by non government entities - are firmly caused by Republican policy. Democrats are the "fiscally conservative" party who improve the economy using less government spending as much as they can in their terms despite the Republican obstruction. Thank you for this video. Nearly every one of my family, friends and coworkers are huge Trump supporters so I don't engage in politics with them. I did before 2016 and 2018 but I realized it was just pushing people away so I stopped. They are unreachable at this point. Their confident certainty that things under Biden is magnitudes worse than under Trump and that Trump magically created the strongest economy in history is ming boggling to me. When he asked me, my dad was in shock when I told him I am much better off now that I was under Trump, and the sad thing is that I can easily see that he is much better off too, but he can't see it himself.

The reason why we don't hear this is because the trickle-down economics that was Trump's signature economic policy is strongly promoted by a vast network of Political think tanks with bottomless billionaire and corporate funding. Even remotely suggesting that tax cuts for the wealthy and deregulation don't "create jobs" will make any public figure an instant target of an endless backlash from those groups. And, it will make mega donors for any politician of any party immediately run at full stride in the opposite direction. Basically, no one who has anything to lose in politics will go anywhere near it.

Yep! it gets back to the faulty point of "the economy was good under X, so X must be good with the economy!", but that's not how it works in reality. Economic policies take years and years and years for the effect to be fully realized, and then it takes DECADES after that for scientists to be able to accurately isolate and measure the effect of said policies. It's complex, but people want everything to be simple.

Ummm, not disagree I g with the overall point, but the very minor recession Bush41 bore responsibility for was trivial in comparison to the smoking economic holes left by Bush43 and Herr Drumpf. From a historical perspective, Bush41 should also get some credit for a few little things like supporting the DoD/DARPA initiatives that led to the internet economy that Clinton gets too much credit for, not to mention a little thing lime the collapse of the Soviet Union and winning the Cold War. TBH, the Cold War outcome was much more an outcome of the Perestroika and Glasnost policies under Gorbachev than anything Reagan/Bush actually did, but building up our military and intelligence services did pressure them greatly.

Harris policy: "Things are terrible under my administration, but I can totally fix it all next year if you vote for me later this year!" If VP Harris knows how to fix all the current problems she says exist and have gotten worse since 2019, it's really strange that she hasn't done and still isn't doing anything to fix it while she's currently in office right now. But don't worry, if she becomes President, she'll DEFINITELY fix it then.

@@itsROMPERS... Perhaps, but your initial contention was that Trump has no policy - "I'll fix them somehow, trust me bro" The irony here is that - agree or not - Trump does have policies. His supporters have a list of things they are voting for. The vice president has no listed policy positions and has done a vague 180 on several prominent positions.
@itsROMPERS...2 ай бұрын
@@bengunderson712 I was just crystallizing what I've heard Trump say in virtually every single speech he's ever made. He paints a highly exaggerated and mostly false image of life in this country (it's wrong to say things are so bad, they just aren't, and America is not a failing nation by any measure), and simply says he's the only one that can fix it. At other points he has indicated some very rough policy positions, but they're usually so primitive they don't even bear consideration. Instead of saying broadly "I will fix things" he says specifically "I will fix this specific thing", but he rarely says how. Example: He says the airports are bad (he's lying, they're fine), and if we elect him, he'll make them better. He never says what he really wants to fix, or how he'll do it. Example: He wants to "drill baby drill". But not only is it unnecessary and a flagrant misrepresentation, because we are producing historic amounts of oil RIGHT NOW UNDER BIDEN, but a president doesn't have any authority to compel drilling for oil, the whole thing is a massive lie. His soft-brained supporters seem to actually believe he can control how much oil is produced, when the truth is if he would tell the oil companies to drill more, they'd just say "duck off, we don't wanna." If you wanna say that it's a question of government approval of oil leases, there are literally tens of thousand of approved oil drilling leases that are going unused NOW. And i you want to broaden this discussion to other subjects like the VP, you can do it alone. I'm talking about Trump, and I don't do "what aboutism".
