Head of faiths in general need an influence mechanic where that can wax and wane depending on certain actions, making them very powerful if they can keep it maxed out, but risking being stripped of the title altogether if your influence as it falls to zero. (For the Sunni Caliphate in the early start dates that'd interact very heavily with different struggle events)

A biggest issue I have with the current (lack of) naval system is that as soon as he touches the Black Sea, Genghis Khan can transport his troops across the Med just as easily as the Venetians. The gold cost doesn't actually matter in the slightest for gameplay. I would just like it if the ocean actually meant something, if it was the barrier it should be. I genuinely wouldn't mind if battles were abstracted to EU4/Imperator style battles, but limited to the coast, even if it wouldn't be 100% accurate. No system would be. Alternatively, I could envision a HoI style system, were fleets take stances (raid/hunt for pirates) and fleets have a chances for meeting based on detection (can be modified by shore lookouts) and evasion (cultural traditions/naval MaA).

A church council system where rulers could attempt to sway religious Tenets would be really cool. Instead of having to create a new faith you could work to push Catholic or Orthodox Christianity in a direction you wanted. I don't expect a naval system before CK4, naval warfare in this period is just so different from people's expectations. I feel they it would need a full rework of the character position system, the fog of war, and the expectations of a grand strategy game to work.

Raiding range is already in EU4. Seems like such an easy change that help a few things. I'm definitely in agreement that sailing over the open ocean should be taken out or made a lot more expensive

If navies are to make their way into ck3 I hope it means they get use as ready to go transports (as opposed to armies having to build ships before embarking) and a way for raiding armies to secure loot even if they are defeated, making navies mechanically important.

Ooooh I've played Sawdanids a few times, (Generally turning Maghrebi and then hybridising with Sicilian) but this struggle is super interesting.

Naval battles just wouldn't satisfy anyone from a historical perspective, or would be really boring. It's such a harsh catch 22 with a video game. Maybe if they made a mostly a trade based update, and added some specific possibilities for naval battles

Maybe if there were trade in CK3 that could be raided, naval battles would have meaning. Dreaming of overseas supply management would prob be pushing it.

The greek fire defenses in constantiople are INCREDIBLE though lol, they singlehandedly fried half a crusade in my Maniot run. (A full crusade, not the Latin shitshow, we were Hellenic.)

was supplying jerusalem with madiya still standing so hard because of "normal" piracy (ie. a ship just assaulting another a la jack sparrow) or because the coast lines were not safe and those goods had a harder time beeing produced
