I dont think Culinary School is necessary but I am personally glad I went, I know a large number of chefs who went and many who didn't. all successful at different levels. I really think it depends on the situation. School can be right for some, but alternatively a cook can go and work for a great chef and get paid to learn as opposed to going in debt. I believe that the kitchen is a lot like the "trades" that way but the mentor is key. Regardless, it needs to be hands-on and passed on by teaching. Thanks for the comment.

Thank you for your previous response chef! I have actually printed out the Sous Chef Certification Booklet a few months ago, and have been taking notes on it and will keep working towards that goal within the next few years. My main focus will be to get through College and move on from there! I have lots of goals and aspirations in mind one of which is to be a Certified Master Chef in the far future! Thank you for your time so far Chef, and I look forward to continuing to get your opinions!

Hello Chef Ford, it’s been wonderful stumbling upon your KZbin channel as well as your instagram page and it is very inspiring. I am a young cook who is currently headed to college and I wanted to ask for your advice about how to prepare to be a Sous chef through the ACF certification process in the near future and what type of kitchen would you recommend working for, like country clubs or high end restaurants and what connections I would need to one day compete internationally like in the Bocuse’dor competition.
