You can't get the feel of a bat using Jugs balls. Crazy. They are way too forgiving. No doubt it's a piece of 💩 in any case, but a proper pill is needed for any useful results.

Would giving it a good knocking in and oiling help? And if so, how much would it help?
@danjadzz11 сағат бұрын
Knocking in possibly, to be honest as a performance piece I really don’t think there’s any difference to what they sell for £20 In terms of the oiling, you’d have to remove the grain sheet & white paint to see the wood which I’m not convinced it would be worth the effort 🙌

Have you seen the bats on Ebay that they'll do custom-made for not much more than £100? I'd be tempted to go for one of those but not sure if they'd be worth the money either way I bet they're better than that from what you both were saying.

I have seen a few, think they sell them on AliExpress too, I don’t think I’ll be spending that much again any time soon though 😂
@danielmacgregor872114 сағат бұрын
Just don’t spend £85 in Sports Direct on principle anyway or (Big Mike’s Emporium of Tat) as it was often called in Newcastle over the years, as you say there’s always better and cheaper ways to achieve your goals

When I played Under 14s back in about 1977 we had an old Rapier cricket bat in the club kit, it had Bill Lawrys autograph on it. Used it many times and it was a great cricket bat back in the day. Went missing one day, dont know what happened to it. My first bat I owned around 1979 was a Slazenger Interstate size 6. Had it for years until it got nicked at an indoor cricket centre.

As someone living in Australia, I have absolutely no idea how the ashes will go this year. Personally, it will often come down to whether or not the selectors select on current form (not a guarantee with selectors). I think both teams right now have a lot going for them. England are a frustrating team because they have a lot of power and potential, but tend to not be very flexible in their playstyle, and don’t tend to adapt. And the. Find some way to spin it into a moral victory if some kind. Meanwhile, Australia are an aging squad. They are a team that you need to break early. It’s very hard to win if you let them get ahead early on. It’s not impossible, of course. But get behind, it’s hard to come back. But the same goes the other way around. Get on top of them early, and they find it hard to fight back as well. Although the recent series against India might go against that, that is literally the first time they’ve come back from being one nil down this century, so I wouldn’t say it’s enough to say it’s a trend. One thing I think Australia often gets wrong is when they don’t rotate their bowlers during long series. Their main three pacers are great, when fresh. But if England manages to wear them down, and the selector don’t rest them, England could capitalise. (I firmly believe this was a firm reason Australia lost their home series to India in 2020-2021, they didn’t rotate their bowlers when they were worn out from the Sydney test). So realistically, I have no idea who will win. Australia are always favourites at home, but England do have the potential if they get it right. I just hope we get a cracking series out of it that isn’t tarnished by some kind of stupid controversy. (Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure both teams will find something to whinge about, they always do, but the 2023 controversy was so infuriatingly stupid)

England now turning to AI. rofl Well they could not do any worse. As an expat Aussie living in the UK, I love the plaintive desperation every time I hear an English person talk about cricket and facing Australia (men or women). Blissful music to the ears! If you want to be truly competitive, wake up! Cricket in Australia is truly competitive from children to test level. All levels of cricket have fierce competition for places, and yes there is sledging too at all levels. It breeds hard tough cricketers that are used to adversity and overcoming it. Slash the number of county sides. Make cricket hard and competition as fierce as possible. Otherwise the current status quo will be maintained. English people going anyone else but Australia and losing, and Australia just winning again.

Pope needs to go, he thrashes at the ball. Ducket has played really well, Root is obviously a given. It would be amazing to have Archer, Wood, Carse and Atkinson for the first two or three tests and persuade Rashid to play. Australia have an amazing bowling attack and Smith is back in form, Head is fantastic. Australian mentality is awesome

Buttler would love the tracks over there, they obviously will not pick him but I can't think of another opener that could scare the Aussies. If the dream of a fully fit Archer and wood comes along then we have a good chance, also we need to double down on bazball. Great content 👍
