I'm 6' 3" tall and have often used a Harrow bat. It's rare anyone notices, but they have the middle without the weight. Also - they cost a LOT less.

I only ever buy second hand cricket bats now. They perform so much better. Usually well knocked In, so are hard and the ball flies off them

The "cricket is too expensive" narrative really bugs me. This year I've bought a brand new NB Heritage from a well known cricket specialist for £60 and a Duncan Fearnley direct from the factory for £60. You don't have to blow a month's mortgage on a bat if you don't want to. Plus every club has at least 1 badger like me who'll have a spare in his bag and is happy to lend that one out.

I mean yeah great but cricket is pretty expensive haha. You’ve got weekly match fees, annual memberships, For people wanting to get into it, you need a bat, pads, gloves, helmet, box, bag for your kit, it’s big very accessible at all. Contrast that to football or rugby and all you need is suitable footwear and shin pads. Basketball again you need nothing really. Most of these other sports are very easily accessible and cost a lot less, so whilst cricket can be inexpensive, look how hard you’ve had to work to find cricket bats at this price. Someone who is looking to start something or is struggling too is going to want to get into the thing that’s easiest to start and the most accessible. Which definitely unfortunately isn’t cricket Dan. So whilst the narrative that cricket is very expensive may not be true completely (although much more costly than other popular sports) it’s not very accessible at all.

I certainly think organised club cricket can be in the U.K., but there seems to be no consistency between clubs/leagues regarding costs of memberships/fees etc I know local clubs to me that charge 3x what I get charged by my club, which I can only assume comes down to a bit of greed, or paying an overseas for a summer The non traditional forms of cricket, on the beach, the back garden, the park, tape ball etc I think is really accessible BUT isn’t really advertised With regards to equipment, totally agree you need more than football or basketball, but like most things it’s as expensive as you want to make it. I’m sure there’s some football boots out there that are worth more than some people’s cricket kits
