Yep. Awesome book! The Licanius Trilogy starts weaker IMO, but finished really strong. A lot of growth as a writer in that series. The Will Of Many starts off at full strength of that bat. There is a lot of set up in the Licanius Trilogy, but the character work and story telling of just worlds better by book three.

The Blacktongue Thief is a great audiobook narrated by the author. Listening to the pronunciations helped in this fantasy world, plus he sings the songs beautifully.

the mercy of gods was a disappointment. felt like the whole thing was just a prologue to a story. I was reading and it was giving setup and more setup with no payoff. they could at least give any answers to the unexpected ally. that way it would've given us something story-wise. similarly on the character level. they made a lot of setup with no payoff. they've set up a situation with the unexpected ally throughout the story but the payoff may be happening only in book two.

Excited for you to get to The Blacktongue Thief! It's one of my favorites - I definitely think The Daughters' War is even better if you've read The Blacktongue Thief first. Also super excited to hear what you have to say about The Gods Below - it's on my radar but I'm waiting to pull the trigger until I've heard more impressions

We were there right around the same time!! We had the most wonderful time, felt like I could stay there, upstairs in a big comfy chair gazing out the window forever. Someone was even playing the piano and it was lovely.

I haven’t been watching a lot of book tube for the last year cause I’ve been in a terrible reading slump but recently I’ve started again and can I just say your joy for a good book is absolutely magnetic! Like when you love a book your aura lights up the room and the way you describe books is next level. You’re so good at booktube and I’m so grateful for your content you never fail to make me smile

I feel like what you said about the pacing in The Well of Ascension gets more and more egregious in later Sanderson's works, and I'm at the point where the explosive finales are not enough of a payoff for me anymore. I'm glad you are enjoying the Daevabad trilogy! The second and the third books delve even deeper into the political intrigue, themes and worlduilding. Personally I think it's one of those trilogy that gets better and better at every book, hopefully it will be the same for you

I absolutely loved "the Blacktongue Thief" but couldn't get through "The Daughter's War" which is a prequel (even though I was so excited for it!) I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of all of these great picks!

There's not much I can tell you about my favourite Black Mirror episode. I think I would have to find the least favourite one in order to make a list, but I don't have time, I just now remembered I didn't watch Black Mirror in over 2 months I have to go, bye.

Love your concise reviews and enthusiasm for sci-fi! Sadly, Locklands is (imo) even worse than Shorefall, in all the ways you described and more. I was so disappointed with it that I am having a hard time wanting to pick up any more of his works or starting any of his new books. I look forward to your review of it. 🔑

New subscriber here😃so many amazing recs in this video! I'm a newer sci-fi reader and hearing you talk about the Sun Eater books makes me want to pick up Empire of Silence, like, today!! It sounds so good. I felt the same way about the Bone Shard Daughter as you did, and am definitely curious about the Gods Below. Also, Helm of Midnight is sitting on my shelf right now...thank you for making amazing bookish content!

I loved Navola! I was in the mood for a slow burn political fantasy and this hit the spot. I bought the special edition from Broken Binding right after. I hope there's a sequel.

And yes, it definitely shares an aesthetic vibe with The Helm of Midnight and also reminds me heavily of Jay Kristoff's style 👀ENJOY!! I just bought all four of the Long Price quartet! I'm almost finished with my first reading of The Expanse- and LOVING it! So I went and bought everything I could find by Daniel Abraham. Also got The Dagger and The Coin series. Sooo nervous about The Mercy of Gods....
@mariareadsssf13 күн бұрын
"The Spice Gate" has amazing magic and worldbuilding. It is one of those books I would recommend to readers who want to transition from Young Adult to Adult Fantasy. "The Sky on Fire" and "City of Lies" are both on my TBR. I also DNFed two books from this list that I wanted to love so badly. "The Principle of Moments" started great, more leaning towards SF, but I did not have the patience for the regency romance. At first I got the feeling "An Academy for Liars" will have similar vibes to "Vita Nostra", but it was more similar to "The Secret History". Maybe my expectations for Dark Academia are too high, thinking about works like "Babel", "Blood Over Bright Haven" and "Piranesi". I am intrested in "The Long Price Quarted", but a member of the LGBTQ+ comunity that I trust mentioned problematic things in the Expanse... So please let us know how you feel after you will read it.
