Like a lot of fans of heavyweight boxing I'm from Philly and a huge Joe Frazier, admirer. I'm 5'11 and I met Joe Frazier in 72 shook his hand and he wasn't as tall as me. For a small heavyweight he was Dynamite. With a huge heart. That second Ali fight in New York where Ali was holding him Ali should have been disqualified.. he held Frasier all night. But Joe was never going to be Foreman, Joe style was made for Foreman. In the old adage of a big heavyweight will be a a smaller heavyweight almost every time. Joe had nothing to be ashamed of what a great career. He was awesome, Rip Joe.

Bob Foster did a great job stopping the fight when he did. Ellis was finished.

I feel it was less to do with Ellis fighting a better fight and more to do with Frazier’s physical attributes slowly deteriorating. Frazier did win but he also took a lot of shots in this fight.

It was said after Shavers fought Ali with his heavy bombs New York speech therapists said Ali's speech slowed by 16%. It was also the fight that was said to have damaged Ali the most.

Joe Frazier was my favorite when I was a kid growing up in the household with my mother from the south of my dad from Detroit Chicago area I witness the prejudice of course the arguments to for my mom and dad about the racial issues in the 60s but I had a picture of Joe Frazier on my bedroom wall and my dad thought it was cool and but my mom didn’t get it but she finally got it later though she learned to appreciate African-American culture and the people the pride and even Joe Frazier go figure she was born and raised in the south anyone can change thanks smokin Joe you change somebody whether you know it or not

A serious question, for expert boxing fans: who will win between Fraizer (in his prime) and Tyson (in his prime) ???
@worldobserver3515 Жыл бұрын
Tyson.
@active.7universal Жыл бұрын
Frazier had more will , better chin and was willing to take alot more damage than Tyson.. if Tyson couldn't get him out in 3 rounds it's bazooka Joe
@steelcurtainsteeler2249 Жыл бұрын
Frazier had the heart of Hollfield, if Mike didn't get him in the first few rounds Mike would get frustrated like he did in the first fight with Holifield and eventually Joe would catch Mike with a left hook.

Tyson would need an early KO.

Cobb was 30, Shavers 36. After losing to Ali, and Holmes twice Shavers needed the win. Still a heavyweight contender Earnie looked past his prime but would go on to fight 17 more pro fights till age of 41 or so. BOTH are great fighters, yet Cobb showed what pugilism is all about. After getting rocked in the early rounds (shots that drop champions) Cobb came back with textbook body work and massive uppercuts. Shavers was clearly fatigued after 3 rounds! Both of these great heavyweights put on a real display of Fight Night! Epic Boxing!!!! Great post!

Ledoux was tough, but a stumblebum as a boxer. He carried his hands down at waist level and objected when his fights were stopped due to his face being cut to ribbons. He was billed as the "Fighting Frenchman". Should have been billed as "The Human Punching Bag".
