Hi Joe, Thank you for the video! Is it a better idea to run a Dante card on the Dlive to use plugins other than waves? Does this have less latency? With live professor as the host.
@joevegna
@joevegna 4 күн бұрын
Good question. And I don’t really know. With SuperRack Performer you can run any vst3 plugins just like Live Professor. So the question is really if Dante is faster than SoundGrid i guess. And I think it comes down to what buffer size you set in the host. Would be interesting to test to be able to give you a better answer.

@joevegna
@joevegna 10 күн бұрын
If you don’t need all 24 auxes for fx and monitor you can use an aux as a group. I use aux 14,15,16 as “groups” for drums, music, vocals including corresponding fx. Aux 14-16 are then sent to the master bus. That said. I would not mind more busses.

The price seems nice until you show that it’s an i5 on the server. Of course, it should be pretty simple to swap that out. I can’t wait to see inside. It’s just a big box with commodity parts for the most part. The comparisons to other mixers are what waves is counting on. But they’re being lazy here. Other systems have horrible cost structures with more expensive and often proprietary components.
@joevegna
@joevegna 11 күн бұрын
Well the upside is that if you don’t like the specs you can still build your own system. Or ad on to this one. Even with the i5 server I think the price is right.

What is latency like when recording Using LV1 ?
@joevegna
@joevegna 12 күн бұрын
0.8 ms. So in practice none existing.
@joevegna
@joevegna 12 күн бұрын
First: Yes you can use (almost) every Waves plugin. HOWEVER!!! Watch out for latency. Some plugins can be used but add way too much latency. This is a great alternative to SQ, Avantis and in some cases Dlive. I would prefer this over Dlive in most cases. But exactly as you point out, it’s perhaps not the best console for absolute beginners. You can mess things up with using the wrong or too many plugins. With A&H it’s hard to break the system. With Waves: Yes, you can break it 😀😎

How could one build a larger system with this? Buying 4 of this could work together as it would be a larger console? Or you just buy one, and add extra control surfaces and Touchscreens, IOs and Servers? How could a larger system be configured for easy use? Any data about system latency? Possible future expansion for more AUX/MON outputs for larger scale IEM Monitor mixing? Thanks :-)
@joevegna
@joevegna 13 күн бұрын
For expansion you would have to add screens and possibly FIT controllers. You can add a bunch of io and servers just as with the old system. Latency is same as always: 0,8ms No info yet on a bigger console. But that would be a logical step. They have not released any info about bigger channel/buss counts. But as the system and user base grows I would imagine they add more of this in the future. Who knows.

@@joevegna Thanks for this part-2 video. Quick question - can this unit or even any of the Waves servers - use any and all the Waves plugin catalog? Or any limits? Obviously it comes with Tune Real-Time which immediately adds some value for a typical Church or even pub-location user. Is it an X32 "killer" - well, still priced above that budget level. Is it an SQ7 killer? Hmm. Avantis killer? Maybe the solo. I just think though that the church crowd will have a little tough time making it "volunteer friendly".
@joevegna
@joevegna 11 күн бұрын
All LV1 can use basically every Waves plugin with some exceptions. However some plugins have too much latency so the might not be suitable for live. Lv1 might not be "volunteer friendly" since it's possible to mess things up. So for that reason SQ and Avantis is a good option. For everyone else I would say this is a nobrainer.

Would they be able to hear all these processing because it sounded great!
@joevegna
@joevegna 15 күн бұрын
Hi, Good question. Short answer: Yes, musicians will hear all of this in IEMs. But … it will depend on the level of cancellation in their IEMs and the noise level on stage. But over all I would say that all nuances are heard better on IEMs than the audience will hear through the speakers. Room acoustics tend to smear the finer details. I will do a IEM video soon. Just waiting for a few things 😎
