Thank you for this powerful presentation! The expanded application of Becker's findings has nailed it. I'm sorry to see that this has not gained much traction, but, given the subject, it's hardly surprising. *I think you mean Becker's "Escape from Freedom" and the "Structure of Evil" both of which are great books! His Pulitzer Prize winning "Denial of Death" was the first book I read of his, not long after it came out, was also riveting.

He didn't say anything about feminism or marxism. You are intellectually dishonest and I hope from the bottom of my heart that you realize that.

Definitely more of the scarier thoughts but it should be talked about. We are responsible for extinction of many beasts. But he’s saying we have no statues of animals we drive extinct…. But those are meuseums… we show that there are animals humans (WE) are responsible for hunting to extinction…. But we don’t hide that we hunted those animals to extinction. In fact we almost did that to pandas if I’m not mistaken… but… we are human… we are the things on 2 legs that are of different hues. If you wanna go historically that’s it. You shouldn’t feel bad because the dodos birds don’t exist today…. Be happy we were blessed with ancestors who were strong enough to fight against saber toothed tigers and wooly mammoths… hell a dodo bird was prolly like a breath of fucking fresh air to those people.

Let me just state my disagreement with what Sheldon describes as "Cultural Fetishism". The argument that the fear of death leads to a narrowed view or meaning of life is highly grounded on a fallacy that just because technological singularity/advancement, climate change, genocide, political warfare, etc...have negative compound effects on bio-life means it's never a better option for a higher survival rate. Even when statistically explained through the process of natural selection by Darwin and Wallace, the ones with high orientation of death and have prepared for future challenges are the ones who mostly survive in an environment. Having fear of death and death-denying attitudes in life is not inherently wrong nor is its consequences (being selfish, being materialistic, being hostile, etc..) because we have to understand that life is not fair all the time, someone weak dies, and the strong survive, that's how sustainability works. Being ruthless and selfish is consequently right given the fact that you cannot control the behavior of other species around you, someone might kill and abuse you for money, love, anger, territory, and sometimes, for irrationally no reason at all. Now, the real question is, if ADAPTATION is that bad to the point where you become ruthless and hostile towards people who also are to you, how can life have such meaning at all if you just stay IGNORANT about what's happening around you?? We were born in this world with this already chaotic economical and social environment, and it's not our fault if we try our best just to survive in this world. If some conservative arrogant priest tells you that you're evil trying to manipulate customers out of their money, then let him speak. Similarly, if he dies in a church trying not to kill some robbers who wanted to kill him, then it's his faith. At least, in my case, I tried to use my knowledge to learn and adapt in this world and abolished my ignorance. In fact, if people are like that priest all the time, the civilization wouldn't have gotten this far like what we are right now. It takes acceptance and rejection of new and old ideas to survive in this world.

Martin Buber was an austrian theologist, who told his students to always have two pieces of paper in their pocket. One they were supposed to look at when one ''is feeling his oats'', that read ''I am only dust of the earth'', and the other piece of paper said '' but God's odem/breath breathes in me'', which they were supposed to look at when they're devastated or broken up.
