An (evolutionarily compatible) alternative to the standard stories of adaptation we hear from those who call themselves "evolutionary psychologists".

There is nothing that elicits such a primal destabilization feeling as seeing the just dead body of a close one for the first time.

Hi 1001, your videos on TMT have been fascinating. Can you give us some insights into what the socio-political implications of TMT are, please?

I talk about that in the video “terror management theory explained”. But for a deeper dive, you can read this book archive.org/details/EscapeFromEvilErnestBecker

@@mr1001nights Yes, thanks for that. I thought I had watched all of that video, but when I went back to it I had only watched half. I completely forgot the stuff about people becoming more aggressive/warlike etc when reminded of their own mortality, too.

That lack of death anxiety buffers you're talking about sounds pretty much like what most people might call psychological trauma. Is there a book or text you might have found inspiration from or that addresses these topics from the TMT point of view?

You have likely addressed this already but what do you think about the notion that people really desire control over their death. It's the uncertainty that gets them. Most people who contact groups like Exit International are in their 50s and healthy. Ostensibly they see close ones die and start thinking of their own death. They want to choose the time, place, and method. If someone is terrified of death itself would they be able to do such a thing?

Suicide for nothing more than to take control of the unknown? There has to be more to each case than that reason.

damn I see this is now two years later. My old computer and the script I was reading is gone. But there’s plenty of terror management theory studies online to look at, including on this topic. Thanks for your interest
