In the captions she says "I play buzzing door fur and everything ..." is there is a piano brand called "Buzzing Door Fur"? The transcript or captions are a great help for me, most of the time. I know of course what a Boesendorfer piano is, I even read about the cooperation between good old Boesendorfer and Yamaha, so I didnot get confused by the captions, but I could not help smile 🤣

Extraordinary reflections of Zhu Xiao Mei. Her Golbderg variations are just fantastic! She is a little bit like Bach and Laozi: modest and profund, with beautiful sense of humour. She is fantastic. Bach, universal? Why then another great Chinese pianist (of another generation), Wang Yuja has never played a single piece of Bach in concert?

I read her autobiography. Touching and realistic. If one has been brought up and educated under a certain regime it is quite difficult to metamorphoses. How many of us will have this courage? Now she's bringing joy through her music. ❤

@jingkun72 8 ай бұрын

dated back to late 1990s after moving to Richmond, British Columbia, Canada from Hong Kong, once I attended a Vancouver Symphony Orchestra at Massey Theatre, New Westminster, there was Angela Hewitt playing J. M. Ravel’S piano concerto in g major…her stage presence was just marvellous 😊

Dr, Zerenconsky: your comments are surprisingly polarized for an experienced musician. Misleading, narrow minded, and preposterous: implying you have superior perspective on correct interpretation of Bach WTC - the scores for which are mostly devoid of performance markings. F for the course. @karenzereconsky1265

In the q&A section I'm amazed at the "ugly" sound of this Kawai . I can't believe the dead sound of the piano she is playing there . She wouldn't touch it if it was as bad as what I'm hearing . It's not because there is no pedal . It must be the microphones or the room .

The description of 'happy Chopin' is exactly my impression while watching Bruce Liu in the Chopin Competition, I called it 'sunny Chopin' then. I also notice his Chopin is a bit different, notably the pointed, detaché, less legato phrasing in many places. Both these are considered not typical of Chopin. The interview is more of a chat show than a deeper exploration of Bruce Liu's musical thoughts. I thought his favourite colour would be this maple leaf (or is it red China) red, since he is wearing this shirt and he wore it in the Rubinstein competition.

Such a magical style he has, it’s impossible for Mr. Liu adequately explain how he arrives at these decisions. He’s so articulate with both his words and his music that we simply have to listen carefully. His wisdom makes itself clear. This is a musician, who broadcasts so much light and passion and thoughtfulness and joy. We are lucky to live in this age with him.

String players make snide remarks about button pushers (pianists) who don't breath .. so I was interested to hear Angela say she had to be able to sing the line.

Gould had the supreme facility to play a well known piece completely differently from anyone else and still make sense .. and isn't that what music making is all about? We don't reproduce a composition but should re-create anew it each time. Angela shares Glen's propensity to sing & hum along with the music 🙃

Except that Bruce himself talked about his attraction to women in interviews shortly after winning. He seemed to clearly present himself as straight. But yes, I agree it's an awkward and almost inappropriate question, especially considering how perfect and insightful the rest of the interview was.
