This is really true to be honest. I see most HC’s on TikTok changing their race to be darker or giving disabilities. Like how in Bungo Stray Dogs headcanon’s they change usually Dazai’s skintone despite the fact he IS canonically Japanese. (It includes Fyodor and Nikolai since they’re technically Russian and Ukrainian representation in the anime and manga.)

If they want black anime characters to be drawn, then they should draw cannon(confirmed by the creator or creators on multiple instances) ones. These include the ones named specifically in this and with the edition of pretty much the entirety of Boondocks. It's a black-centered anime, so it's just what they wanted. Black characters. I don't know why it's so hard for some people to look for popular animes with black charters, then draw the black characters!

In my art, I and my siblings do our characters with different skin colours or mix, Black-washing or white-washing or taking screenshots is bad, that is not a work of art they shouldn't do their own not tracing someone's art

I expressed my discomfort of an ASIAN character being blackwashed as an ASIAN person in a tiktok comment section and i got called "white" and "racist" or "scared of black people" and got my feelings invalidated

As a native american, I never really saw respectful/accurate representation growing up, so I cling to characters that are native with my life So it pains me so terribly to see native characters get race swapped just because some are lightskinned (like me)

My opinion? Characters are just puppets to a plot and thus (unless the creator of the character explicitely states otherwise), consumers can do what they want in FANON. Don't like? Just scroll. I think race swapping is stupid, cringe and unecessary but you know what? At the end of the day, it's just fan-made fiction that isn't even canon. Play with your dolls how you want, just don't insist that your way is the correct way.
