I bought my psion3a to keep a diary of jobs and eventually write an invoice and print it off. It worked superbly and the one advantage that psion had over the compaq and others was the print preview screen. Sure it was so minute that you couldn’t see the sentences but the layout was visible including paragraph spaces and top/bottom gaps. Eventually bought the 5 as my p 3a was stolen.

This is not a fare comparison, msx has 64KB ram, while you chose the 48k version of the spectrum, the spectrum 128k version of out run has music too.

BEST VIDEO EVER! Regarding Firmware version 3.11a for the Ultimate-II+L, it enables wireless connectivity. Could you please confirm which wireless standard it supports? Specifically, does it support 802.11ac? I want to ensure it's not using Wireless N, as I am concerned about potential vulnerabilities on my network.

I think it's not enough to value the resolution and number of colors, but what's about hardware sprites and softscrolling abilities?

Clive Sinclair was so full of crap... He knew nothing of the product, or the market. Despite the Spectrum being quite rubbish compared to everything else on the market, it was a success, a huge accidental success. Instead of taking that, and building something awesome, he did everything wrong, and led the company to Amstrad's hands. As for the MSX, I really wished I had one back in the day, but my parents were not into any technology apart from a TV and a VCR, but using them today, they feel really solid and interesting. And the fact you had so many different companies making them kept everyone on their toes, and the devices were well made.

If only they gave you an automap... not to sound like a casual, but the game is a confusing maze with not much visual variety to help you navigate it... basically forcing you to use pen and paper, which still wasn't a complete solution to the problem.

I bought my son’s one of these in ‘88? When ‘Comet warehouse’ was offering a plus music keyboard in their deal. My son’s were just into the general games but l was into writing simple programs, playing the synthesiser/keyboard and also in their bundle was a 3d graphics intro prog. which was great. I later was amazed at Yamaha’s CMX5 music computer at 30k which l bought s/h and what that could do musically. Great inventive times.

I had to smile on the "copyright laws" from a 1982 computer. When I got mine, the first thing I did was remove the weights. It's way to heavy for me and the weights are totally unnecessary. I mainly use mine, though as a shelf ornament, as I play my Speccy games (of which I have about 9gb worth of stuff for (over 130,000 files, but a lot of repeats,) at the moment,) on my PC using Spectaculator. I really love this emulator as I can load games in and hear the fantastic loading music from the games. Hearing this is much better than the actual games in some cases. I-Ball 1 and 2 are one of my favourites. I have them as an MP3 tune on my phone.

I had one, bought circa 1995, got rid around 1997 for a measly £75. Bought it off a guy who included about 20 games. Liked it. Back To The Future 3 was a good title.

My favurites where Eye Of The Beholder 1 and 2. I know that Dungeon Master was released a few years earlier but in my opinion the first zwi EOB-games by Westwood perfectionized the Genre. When it comes to Legend of Grimrock I have tested it but I'd rather go back to Eye Of The Beholder which I have finished many times since it had been released. To me it just has the best atmospehre of all of them.

@@TheRetroShack The answer is perfectly consistent with the game. As an American I never had a Speccy (a friend loaned me a ZX81 for a few weeks) and I don't know if Artic ever ported games over to the Apple II line, but I have played plenty of games that were infuriatingly obtuse. If you ever want to punish yourself download Escape From Rungistan or Kabul Spy - they tormented me for weeks back in the 80s!

I only really played text adventures, first on the ZX Spectrum 48k, then Commodore 64, then Amiga. Still play modern ones today. OG adventures I remember include Urban Upstart, Eureka (we completed all parts on the Spectrum, but turned out it was bugged, so a C64 player won that £25,000 prize), and Ground Zero. Crikey, now my memories of adventures are flooding back - Lord of Time, Level 9. HHGTTG C64 I think, disk based of course. In fact, all the Level 9 before they became CYOA type games. Infocom. Loads of them! Mordon's Quest - Mebourne House, another one I really enjoyed, esp. the 80 column presentation.

It's scary how far ahead of its time Dungeon Master was. Top notch graphics, dynamic lighting system, nutrition system, rune bound spell system - including potion breweing , great riddles, dynamic class system with learning by doing, multiple attack modes per weapon, magic weapons, clear and well thought inventory (hello Wizardry 6 and 7) and all that with real time battles. Crazy.

Late to this but I would say as a 56 year old gamer this was probably the most significant gaming moment of my life. The first time I threw a loaf of bread at a mummy and ran away “holy crap” and then walked around the corner and the bread was sitting there in the corner and the mummy was busy eating the bread. Fi😢rst game ever where the world persisted. Changed everything.

I see it as the beginning of the end for RPG D&D gaming. Just like when I first played Wizardry on my buddy's Apple IIE and thought WTH is this? And went back to jiving on Ultima and Wizard's Crown; this (To me) just led to more 3d eye candy that just ramped up the genre on a hybrid Arcade / Fantasy Dungeon 3-D exploration adventure course. I Preferred The stand-outs that have come along over the years include games like Pool of Radiance, Might & Magic, Elder Scrolls, etc

i didnt have the money for games they were something like £5.99 and that was way to much over a weeks wages and i had chip sticks and rola cola to buy with that so what i did was go the the local library , find the spectrum magazines and flick through to find a game to type in , pay 5p and get a copy of that page sometimes it would cost 15p for three pages of code go home , tap it all in playing yet another game of finger twister on the spectrum keyboard and after a couple of days have a game ..that was generally very very poor but occasionally one would be nearly good and that could be copied and sold in the playground , a bit later the library would stock cassettes that you could lend like a book and then the REAL business started !!! two binatone cassette radios linked up with the speccie cassette lead and a copy factory was made a tne pack of C30 from woolies and we were off !!

I remember saving up my pocket money and everything 4-6 weeks buying a £4.99/£5.99 game, if i couldn’t wait that long the poor mans games we’re £1.99 if I’d brought to much rola cola and sherbet dips. WHS smiths always had a good selection. Loved the cassette art, although games never quite matched the hype of the covers.

Atari made a big value step forward by adding a MIDI port, but then missed stepped entirely by having an interface for a drive that was so poorly supported it cost just as much to do so as a system had no interface. I worked with a number of ST systems in music studios and I believe (it may have been a couple of years ago! yep sarcasm at my expense) I never saw anything but a real SCSI drive in use so basically requiring an interface to switch ACSI to SCSI making it zero help. You can argue that ACSI is like SCSI but if it's not SCSI it's not SCSI.

This is a really fun thing! What causes items in the game to be able to be picked up? I was unable to pick up the notebook and the cartridge for a very long time. It kept saying that it didn't understand, until both were visible in the room description together.
@TheRetroShack
@TheRetroShack Ай бұрын
There’s a ‘scenery’ tag that applies to things you can see but can’t pick up. But that doesn’t apply to the notebook and the cartridge. You should be able to pick them up and drop them as much as you like. Remember that you can only carry six things at a time though :)
