I'd send that 305 to the scrap pile, all depends on your plans for the maro! Me personally I would get a good used 350 cammed and heads and throw on some cheap summit headers and make her eat a little bit! But like I said before all depends on your plans for the car... How's the transmission?

Holly smokes batman I have never seen a engine infested with roached!! How is that possible? Unless someone poured them down the oil fill tube.. Also looks like the oil changes were very far and few in between..

As of first watching your video, if that is the factory engine that is a 305, being a 88 the 350 would have been tune ported and the 305's could have been tune port or tbi like this one looks like via the air cleaner.. Now I will watch the video to the end and see what you find out!

You may haveto have power booster on there if you keep front disc brakes on it plus check your distribution box

Those are not vortec heads. Those are tbi heads. The only thing they have in common is the ugly centerbolt valve covers. Lots of differences. The tbi combustion chambers are D shaped and 76cc. Vortec heads have 64cc combustion chambers that are shaped like a heart. The heart shape is for a faster and more efficient burn. The tbi intake ports are the smallest and vortec intake ports are the biggest. Vortec heads have 8 total bolts for the intake manifold, tbi has 12.

Running no thermostat in a fuel injected vehicle is problematic because if the truck never gets to operating temperature then the fuel injection system will continue to run rich because it thinks the engine is not warm yet. All my GMT400 trucks get a 180° thermostat

Guys get worried about the whole center intake manifold bolts having their angle changed sometime in the mid 80s but let me remind you the the L31 (vortec 350) in 1996 has no center bolt holes at all so yea

Just stumbled on your page and you’re not far from me over here in Lucedale! Got you a new sub and if you wanna watch someone close to ya, bowtieguy601 is a buddy of mine’s KZbin channel! Just a few things: the coolant temp sensor on the intake manifold isn’t needed at all after the carb swap, that sensor is for the computer. The coolant temp switch on the driver side head is what works the gauge. Also, those aren’t Vortec heads, they’re TBI heads. The Vortec heads have all vertical intake manifold bolts. You were right about the wire for the ignition though, that’s the original coil power wire and that’s what most people use to power the HEI during a carb swap!

I’m a 2nd gen Camaro guy. I’m excited to see more Camaro content. That’s a good idea to buy a whole donor car. I almost paid that much for a rear quarter skin for my ‘77 by the time I paid shipping. I know life gets busy and it’s hard to find time to work on our projects but keep em coming!!!
