Those long home runs are really important, because any homer over 500 feet gives the team an extra run vs. just a "regular" home run. (For example, a 520-foot 3-run homer would give the team 3 + 1 = 4 runs.) Right? _Obviously NOT; the comment was just sarcasm to show how totally MEANINGLESS "tape measure" homers are. As long as it clears the fence in fair territory, it is IRRELEVANT by how much it clears it by. HanK Aaron did not hit many "tape measure" homers, but he hit more legitimate homers than anyone else. And that is ALL that matters!_ Regarding Mickey Mantle, it is amazing how much power that ordinary-sized man could generate. He was an absolutely AMAZING athlete, perhaps the best pure athlete to ever play professional baseball. But he was also a drunk. How many games did he miss because he was too sick to play due to his alcoholism? In how many games in which he DID play was his performance hampered due to booze? As it was, he was an all-time great. But without the alcoholism, he may have been THE all-time great. Greater than Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, Williams, Mays, Aaron, Clemente. We shall never know for sure.

This is the longest homerun recorded even though I can't remember who, where, or what year it happened. This guy hit the ball out of the park and into a passing truck. They chased after it, and caught up with it when the truck stopped 30 miles down the road. By far the longest homerun in history, isn't it?

Carl Yastrzemski hit a 515 foot home run at Anaheim Stadium in 1970. It was the longest home run ever hit at that stadium.

Since Dunn's homerun ended up landing in the Ohio River it was actually an interstate homerun hit from Ohio into Kentucky.

Norm Cash hit several over the roof of old Tiger Stadium. I was at one of those games. The ball landed in the lumberyard across the street.

On a tour of San Diego, our guide told us about a stadium that once stood in the downtown area. He said Ted Williams hit the longest home run in baseball history. The ball went over the fence, went into a train box car and it didn't stop until it got to Los Angeles! 😅

I saw Mickey Mantle hit one out of the ball park in Briggs (Tiger) Stadium in straightaway center field. That's gotta be pretty long. I don't recall anybody measuring it.

A friend's dad who worked for broadcast tv back in the '90s told us that, during BP one day, with no public in the building, Bernie Williams hit one out of Yankee Stadium, but everyone wanted to keep it hush so that it wouldn't tarnish Mantle's hit that almost went out...

I got to see the Sonics play a few times. I have been to sporting events in all 3 of the venues they used, only saw them at one venue though. At the Tacoma dome I saw basketball, hockey, football, wrestling, and maybe a few more that I can't think of. It is a great arena.

Civic Arena was home to the AFL's Pittsburgh Gladiators from 1987 to 1990, and the Thunderdome was home to the AFL's Tampa Bay Storm from 1991 to 1995.

Raptors played at Skydome mainly because Maple Leafs petty ownership didn’t allow them to use the Garden. Then when the Leafs got a new stadium to be shared with the Raptors, the guilt tripped them into being purchased by the Leafs ownership group.

actually, if you look back on it. Until the 1970's, I don't think there were any football only venues. Teams attached themselves to MLB teams because most of those already had venues they could use. The first few that I'm aware of that were football only, Arrowhead stadium in KC ,Rich Stadium in Buffalo and Texas Stadium in Irving TX. After that is when other teams started working toward football only venues... still, why build a football only venue.. 8 games/year? Seems like spending quite a bit of coin for only a small volume of use. Don't know why governmental entities got so stupid.

I was sitting up about the highest you can be in the blue deck between 1st and homeplate at Dodger stadium. Cub's Dave Kingman golfed 2 homers in the same spot that dropped straight down at the palm tree just inside of the back of the left feild bullpen. That tree is probably a couple feet inside of the stadium. If he didn't golf those 2 homers but rather closer to a line drive. He would have hit 2 out of the park homers in one game at Dodger stadium. I was at the top of the blue deck as I was looking up in the sky and drop close or on that palm tree. Never seen anything like it.

On June 14, 1983, Kirk Gibson of the Detroit Tigers belted a blast over the right field roof against the Red Sox. It was later measured to be a 523-foot homer.
