Proud that my family once owned a Scenic II. I remember as a young boy being very impressed by the VFD instrument panel. It ended up being the very first car I drove.

4:00 not exactly. I find you british focus too much on Scalextric. The brand "SCX" or actually Scalextric Espana, and this is what I've to google to reach their website, is born in a period where Hornby had economical difficulty, so, they sold the name to another company, such an explicit market move. So, actually exist two companies called each Scalextric. I'm sorry for this because SCX doesn't look worse than Scalextric, but today that all this stuff is bought online, is quite difficult reaching from Italy the e-commerce, written in spanish, of SCX. Scalextric and SCX both are not easy to be found in Italy, Scalextric just implemented a better e-commerce, but I can't don't say that there always have been stronger competitors in EU markets. This is probably what brits hardly understand, the word "scalextric" without reference to the maker is used only in british commonwealth. I respect the Scalextric brand because it has been the first, but here, throught the decades, by having to choose between Polistil, Ninco, Policar and Carrera, without any importation tax, I hardly find reasons to buy Scalextric "polistil", as we use to say in Italy. Maybe the SCX 4wd cars and Compacts, but as I said, they are not directly imported in Italy so I would despere for spares

0:52 What a weird map is that?? Finland is suddenly part of the Soviet Union? East Germany extends also to East Pomerania and Silesia (which, in fact, are Polish since WW II)? West Germany (aka the Federal Republic) also controls the Austrian states of Tyrol, Salzburg, and Carinthia and has therefore a common border with Italy?

I have a Skoda Superb, and even that has the sun visor cut out on the left hand side, and yes it's a pain. Also one of Skoda's simply useful touches, the ice scraper in the petrol flap, well recently we had some freezing weather in the UK, so I thought, ah! Simply Clever! I pressed the button to release the fuel flap - no luck, it was frozen shut! Thanks Skoda. 😄

In 1972 I started working as a technician with CN Telecommunications (previously Canadian National Telegraphs) overhauling Teletype machines, most of which were used for Telex. Back then, you could use Telex to send a telegram, with computers used to receive the Telex and then operators would format them into a telegram. I used to maintain those computers and the terminals the operators used. Later on my company, then called CNCP Telecommunications, after CNT & CPT merged, offered a system called Telenet, which was an X.25 based packet switched network. It was possible to interchange messages between Telex and Telenet. I worked on those Telenet computers too.

The piano black is just not that good...i mean looks nice, 10% of the time, the rest is filled with prints and any touch leaves a mark and scratches easy. And yes, nowdays premium cars arent really that, yes they have more features, more or less useless for the normal user... yet it cost you on the long term waaaaay more.

I drove a Kodiaq for three years. Many of your niggles can be overcome with familiarity with the systems. The speed pestering often has a single button solution but as my car pre-dated the ENCAP edict and i have since sold it, i would have to search online. Thanks for the review.

The UK seems to have a weird fascination with manual gearboxes still. I don’t get it either. Other parts of europe went automatic a long time ago, especially VW group customers with the DSG which was perceived as ”better” than a traditional auto. It’s not, but people think it is.
@cms110422 күн бұрын
The speed warning thing is a legal requirement by the EU since August, so all new cars will have it. It is annoying to introduce such feature, when either the recognition is not 100% or, even worse, they use outdated map data. The VW/Skoda system is actually one of the better ones. Some manufacturers give you a one button press solution to disable the system, because they know how bad it is.

Press & hold the voice recognition button to activate Siri in Apple CarPlay. There is a setting in the menu via the infotainment system to alter the locking for all doors to unlock or only the driver door. This is seen as a safety feature to help prevent theft from the passenger side when entering the car

If you want to defeat the car’s tattle tale nag, find and remove the SIM card. You still may have speed limit recognition but it will become obsolete as it can’t get updates without a sim!

Car companies are introducing all sorts of new safety features, and yet auto deaths (at least in the US) are at a 50 year high.
