Update: The dark screen in Apple Carplay is controlled by the lights (which were on all the time). Thanks for all you who suggested this was the problem! My understanding is you need to have your headlights on when driving on the autostrada in Italy. As the Lancia is an Italian car, this means it's a bad decision to key day/night mode off the headlight switch rather than a light sensor like many other cars.

In Italy you need to have headlights on on the autostrada UNLESS the car is equipped with DRL (which the Ypsilon has). Nevertheless I'll admit it's a bit of a weird situation

I rented one of those for about 10 days, about a month ago. I thought it was a great little car. It had all the features that I value. An effective air conditioning, Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and the reasonably smooth ride. The letter is very important considering the rut of Italian roads outside the Autostrada. It also, amazingly, did not have a single rattle or a squeak. It was, however, not very quick.

Hi, maybe the screen is in night mode beacause the headlights are on? Im Italian and this car is not so new, but it does have everything that you need, and a lot of people here in Italy buy it because is something for some stylish, easy to park and drive, and is familiar in a 2024 where cars , even the ones that should be cheap ones, are too complex and tech for someone that just uses a car to poit A to point B or an elderly. I respect it because it kept Lancia alive, even if Lancia is no more something like years ago... nice little car, but not grat.

GN plates means september-october 2023 delivery, one of the last production lots before the end of sales circa february 2024. The issue with carplay dark mode is likely the time, which i think you have in 12h format but the car expects 24h format so it believes you are driving by night.

I don't think she kept the car more than a few years but it did her fine it was simple motoring. She has FWD Volvo XC30 now and that has a little three cylinder engine in it , not a great car to drive, my sister has a knack of buying dull cars but they seem to do her well, probably because driving above 60mph for her is frightening. We have an Ypsilon here in the UK, badged as a Chrysler due to Lancia's poor historic reputation. Our Red and Black model is quite stylish if a little dumpy but it really doesn't have any zip to it. Plus the mpg from the 1.2 FIRE engine is only around 38 in town. Also, the instruments aren't changed for RHD so the speedo is miles away. In the UK we have a strange romantic idea of Lancias and Alfas of the past, rather forgetting that they broke down all the time and disintegrated with rust in a few years. They were like having an Italian girlfriend, all your mates with a Fiesta were jealous of your conquest. Of late, Lancia seems to be just a name they throw onto any random car they have in group, while Alfa is a bit more focused they just seem so ordinary inside. The whole Fiat Chrysler PSA group just seems a bit of a mess that gets along with home brand loyalty in Italy and France. The Ypsilon just seems to be the answer to a question that was never asked, produced by accountants rather than anyone with a passion for cars. The rear lights look awful, or perhaps it is just that they remind me of the rear lights on the last generation Jag XJ, which it is still traumatic to think about.

It even managed to ruin the door closing sound which was much more upmarket in the previous gen, leagues above even the car it was based on. Still, it managed to sell better in Italy alone than the whole Alfa Romeo range sold globally, keeping the brand afloat, so that has to mean something.

Just as my mind was making jokes about the egg shape I realized the colour LOL. That's not a car, that's a dystopian ground vehicle. Jeremy Clarkson would have said this is a car that looks like it wants to kill itself. If they had made it autonomous we'd have woken up one day seeing in the news how thousands of these cars driven themselves (unoccupied) off of cliffs after having used the native Google A.I. to text their suicide notes to their owners. I haven't seen a car this depressed since the Audi A2, but at least the A2 was built to top quality.
