Great video! I really enjoyed your thoughts on the series. It was also nice to hear a lot more about the bonus VN arcs that I passed over. Keep up the great work.

I first got into studying Japanese many years ago, and I never would have started if Namasensei hadn't called me a b*tch. The bit about Nick Robinson being Porter's brother... And the Nama crossover... How did I never know this?

This only looks like a Persona 5 skin of the third game, doesn't add anything you could call worthwhile to P3 FES besides being able to control your companions... Oh wait! You could do that already in P3 Portable...

Both versions have major issues - the game design made more sense in the original, but the mechanics like tiredness that made it work were tedious. Plus, no control over party members - regardless of functionality of AI - was a drag. Reload conversely feels disastrously paced and lopsided due to the removal of tiredness.

There are a lot of peak moments for this series. The ultimate and most effective on for me was the slice of life, chill schoolgirl start. Then, when we go to the city, mion is carrying a piece openly in a country where that's super hard to do. It's literally never acknowledged (she doesn't even use a gun until like the 7th arc) This is what the story is telling you. The horror and lethality that we accept as normal if no one talks about it. That regular people are filled with lots of darkness, and some of them WILL hurt you with it. That we can't truly know if someone can end a life just from their personality. Absolutely terrifying.

Interesting. I have opposite views. I grew up with gex 1 and never played sequels and aren't interested because they are 3d. I love the first game and i think its amazing but ridiculously easy. There's flaws for sure but the game is extremely charming. Theres a lot of cool secrets to find and i think level design is very fun. Exploration isn't rewarded unfortunately but rushing definetly is. You can beat entire game in under an hour. Maybe because i played the game years ago as a kid, but i don't really get how can anyone consider it to be hard. The hitbox on the tail is wild, the powerups are all over the place, almost all enemies die in a single hit, extra lives is the main and only reward for exploring (and finding bonus or flies which all give you lives) bosses are a joke compared to modern games anyways. Random story noone asked for: i first played gex when i was somewhere between 6 and 8 on 3do and had a controller issue. There was a button that was used only to pause the game and to summon the remote inventory to unlock levels. It did not work on my controller, and because it had no gameplay value and i am not english speaker i had absolutely no clue how to progress past level 1. The ideas that i was trying to do with my mom to progress included: beating level 1 over 50 times trying to find a working remote, grabbing remote with tongue, restarting game every time, not grabbing the remote then comming back to grab it, finding every possible secret in case i can just walk into level 2 somehow, chasing the remove menu in world menu when it appears for 1 second after you beat the level, chasing the crows in case they stole the remote somehow from the menu (???), trying to get grabbed by the hand in the world menu in case that will somehow let me progress, clicking on the turned off level hoping they'll unlock, waiting in world menu for hours, waiting in a level for minutes inthinking that idle animations gex does when you are afk will summon a useful item, "reading" the manual to find a remote (actually just looking at pictures imagening myself playing those levels), waiting in the main menu untill demo starts playing, "playing" the demo not realizing i don't control gex and its just a video, watching devs play those same 3 demo levels on repeat and dying on purpose like idiots while i scream at them because i wanna see the rest of the level, and eventually getting into contact with my relatives who owned this console before giving it to us and asking them for help. Turns out all we needed to do was clean the controller. This story is pointless but if you combine it with the fact that the gex disk was scratched and wouldn't even turn on 80% of the time, and the fact that i was a little dumb impressionable kid, you can probably imagen the kind of emotions this game inflicted in me back then when i actually got to play level 2. Oh boy, i was in love with every little texture that wasn't used on level 1 lkke those background fences. Downloaded it on pc a few weeks ago to feel complete about my other childhood fantasies related to the game, such as using power ups to see normally immortal enemies like sumo and octopus die. Yup, i wanted to see every single enemy electrocuted, frozen and burned and couldn't without cheats. It's not as fun when you're an adult and realize that those aren't actually animations just a visual effect.

This is a little off-topic, but someone needs to introduce Higurashi to David Lynch. I think he would love it so much that he might explode lol. On that same note, if you love Higurashi but you haven’t watched Twin Peaks yet, you absolutely should. I think you’ll have a blast trying to piece together that mystery too.

From what I understand, a retrospective should contain: • an opening/hook • a recap • what went well • what could have been done better • overall summary/review Nonetheless, i enjoyed the recap as it's been a while since I last thought about Higurashi.

Higurashi is incredible in many things, it's probably one of my favourite horror "novels" of all time, that's for sure. But what truly "hits me" about it is the premise and how the topic of messy family life is explored through the horror beyond the specific characters experiences. It's extremely well done and developed. Which isn't a surprise considering the overall quality of the work but I still think it's worth being highlighted, even if only because it's one the main ties it has to Umineko. The story of Maria alone at home or Ange at school are horrible beyond the murders and gore.

A sound novel is NOT a visual novel, they predate them and their focus is on music over any kind of written story telling. They lead to the creation of VNs but they are absolutely not interchangeable words.

Funny enough Tatarigoroshi was the first one that I understood what was going on, everyone is playing it cool. Only Satoko's freakout at the end threw me off a bit but then I just decided maybe hs went crazy. Then again Watanagashi too was easy but then I wasn't sure if the demon was metaphorical.
