I forgot about the save slots being represented by small 3d models until you showed them off! It's one of those little things that makes the PS2 more magical and nostalgic.

If you didn't make the comparison of Maken Shao to Dark Souls, then I would have. That cautious flow of combat immediately jumped out at me. It sounds like it was ahead of its time in that regard.

Maken X is a masterpiece with so much depth that's so easy to miss. The history behind it is essential for any SMT fan to know. Maken Shao? Not so much...

@@hannahvawdrey8112 The feel is absolutely different. You don't feel immersed and it's a lot easier to dodge and manage space. It kind of defeats the purpose.

I’m so glad to see someone appreciate maken x. Loved it so much on dreamcast. Just don’t like the voice acting. You could always tell it had a lot stripped back. Shao idk I never played it but first person in maken was such a cool draw along with the graphics at the time

Having played Maken X now I have to disagree. PS2 version is a significant improvement in pretty much every regard.

@@SnicketySlice I understand, but being able to see all around a character makes it MUCH easier. Imagine playing almost any first person shooter in third person. Being able to see ambushes and dodge incoming shots make them all easier. Part of the design of Maken X is the claustrophobia and space management. Yes, Shao is much easier to play and control, but that's not how it was intended to be played, and the decreased difficulty reflects that. I also think the colors took a hit going to the PS2, but there were a lot of games that experienced that. Your videos are great. Keep up the good work!

You have a really nice style, and your editing is really good. Your scripts are really tight and to the point, and your narration is well done. I've just come from watching episodes 3 and 1, and I wanted to say I feel like this series is under appreciated, and I'm glad you made it.

When talking about Air Force Delta, I remembered about another PS2 Flight/dogfight game with sci-fi elements that remind me of mecha: Rebel Raiders. My dad loves these kind of games, and they make me really nostalgic. Thanks!

I’ve played both Maken X and Shao an unhealthy amount of time and i can easily say X is way more worth your time. Highly recommend giving it a shot when you can, it’s super fun.

A early 2000's UK Channel 4 short lived video game show called Thumb Bandits Reviewed Polaroid Pete for years this was the only proof it existed in English at all.

Interesting titles here. Never heard of any of them, but maybe I can throw my hat into the ring with one I think MOST haven't heard of. I don't know how obscure it really is, but I can name at least one game that has been just about forgotten by all, even the guys that made it. Good Ol' Atlus Co. Look up SkyGunner / Sky Gunner and then try to find it here on youtube. There are very few non-dated entries about this game to go to. It didn't sell well, that much is certain, as there are very sparse details to be found about the game beyond... it's a game... for the ps2... It's a Flight Sim Shoot-em-up... Here's a small stub summary for you... Have a good day... That's it. But obviously, if you actually play this game, there is a lot more going on in the Skies where planes are shotguns, Machine guns, Rifles and so on. Atlus published the game, but PixelArts-- a studio that I cannot find anything about more than the actual game-- are the guys who created it. You can't find much about any of the team, either. The best I have done is find the composer, Mayuko Kagesita, in some lesser used websites. Her only credit is to this game as far as Video Games go. As for the rest, their names are there, but none get a biography and there is virtually nothing to be had otherwise. Now, the game itself is very cutesy and stylized toward anime lovers and children. The gameplay is very simple, yet I remember it being harder than what I was used to as a kid. I'm sure it was not really THAT hard, little me just didn't know what they were doing. You fly Planes stylized as guns, normally shooting down dozens and dozens of baddies and some few larger bads with maybe one big bad. Your in-game friends are constantly competing with you for the highest pay-out, which can sometimes score you perks later on if you beat the two of them. They are competitive and normally, the hot shot, Copain, will give you a harder time than Ciel or Femme, unless of course you are playing as him-- which you cannot do until you've cleared the game as Ciel and Femme first. The flight controls are very fluid and almost make you feel like you're watching a movie when locked onto something. You have three main weapons-- Machine gun, seeker missiles and a special ammo unique to each character. As well, each character has a unique action all their own to do with their plane. Maybe it's an attack, maybe it's a maneuvering system... Maybe it's both! All of that's well and good for you, but there is also an overheat system that punishes attack use with reckless abandon, so to teach you not to go overboard or spam. This kind of thing also eats your money/score away and can land you in the negatives if you aren't paying attention, meaning you aren't getting anything good for being sloppy or just plain using up ammo the second something's on screen. Each character has a different enough set of missions, making each playthrough different enough to keep things fresh for each one. But as it goes, Femme is Easy difficulty, Ciel is Normal difficulty and Copain will be Hard once you unlock him. Back to it's looks, it's got the same appeal as most open-field plane shooters do-- high speed, nonstop action and fun enemy and level design-- and even has an art direction I could liken to Klonoa, Dark Cloud, Sonic The Hedgehog and Mega Man Legends. It even has minions like to Legends' Servbots. So, there was definitely some appeal, there... I guess it was just a victim of the time. It couldn't really compete with the games that released in close proximity to it on the calendar of September 2001 like Silent Hill 2 and Shenmue II, but.. why should they matter? This is a fun plane game, not a horror or drama visual novel. Otherwise, I guess it just didn't interest a wide crowd for the same reason Wind Waker was originally mocked: It looked too cutesy. Maybe it was to niche. Maybe people didn't like that the people of this world were Dog people... Yeah, everyone's a dog person, but you'd never guess by 90% of the game, as it's not exactly the most visible thing to see. Ya have a little tail, but no.. ears... seemingly...? Don't think about it too hard. It's honestly not that important. Skygunner for the PS2, it's sole console, currently sells at a price of $64.99 used (disc alone), $100.65 used with the box and manual, $112.99-to-$499.99 Complete and New as well as never unsealed. Skygunner ALSO has a Demo Disc for the PS2 listed anywhere from $24.99-to-$84.99 used. I have never seen a Mint Demo Disc put on any listing I watch, but that probably means that if any in a mint condition exist, then they would probably be worth a whole lot. Dunno if you could sensibly sell a DEMO for more than the full product, though. Not unless the demo shows off a feature or details that are not present in the main game which are considerable. I honestly don't even know much about that demo. Never seen it, don't know in what it came. If ever you get to play this game, it's a bit of a hidden gem. I can't do it justice with this dumb comment. So, maybe that makes it less obscure and more just plain jane overlooked.

I was about to comment how much it bothered me how the Delta Strike 3 footage looked like it had novice controls on, but I suppose it's not like Ace Combat. But after so many hours of being used to Ace Combat's expert controls, it's impossible to get used to gameplay on Novice

Dreamcast version Maken X is way better than PS2 remake Maken Shao. Not to mention a game runs with 60 FPS, and have better controls and graphic. And Maken X predicted a future - developer Atlus, publisher Sega :)

said it before say it again, Metal Saga, which is one of 2 (soon to be 3) games released to the West based on the Metal Max Series, its defientally a strange RPG and when I say strange I do mean it...from the mundane dogs with artilly guns on their back, to artilly with sexy fishnet stocking legs, to the freakin Macho Man Church...yeah its memorable for all the wrong reasons LOL
