Welcome to the channel!!! 🤗 Thank you for watching ♥️ I started the beds with no wood, I decided to keep grass path ways and I ended up buying the wood because I didn't have enough of a barrier between the grass and the bed but you can definitely do it without the wood if you opt for wood chip paths instead!

Ooh, yes: I save and clean up and grind to powder our household eggshells, too. Only for the sterilizing, I drop the shells into a pot of boiling water let them cook for about twenty minutes or half an hour after the last pair of eggshell halves slip under the surface. I have a half-gallon container I save them in, and then sterilize those shells once the container is full, but I also give the shells a good rinse under running water and I try to remove as much membrane clinging to the inside as possible. Then into the collection bin they go, to wait until I have a full batch. Once the boiled shells have dried off completely, they can be finely crushed, or ground to a powder. Much gardening love from Northeast Ohio, U.S.A. 😊💚💚💚💚💚😊

Congratulations on having done so well on your exams, and in your gardens, too! Your college/university coursework of course has to take precedence over making and posting videos, and how could you not have taken time to see family. And how lovely that you're an auntie again! Have you grown red Brussels sprouts before? You know they are much later maturing than the green B-sprouts varieties, yes? Depends partly on which red Brussels sprout you are growing but 210-260 days is typical for red sprouts. (I'm trying both "Rubine" and "Red Bull" Brussels sprouts this autumn and next [h'mm, let me think a bit]..very early next spring for both of them just to see whether one sowing or the other does better.) I'm reckoning it's always worth trying a sowing of something, for it might work out brilliantly if the weather cooperates with you, and to try is at least a try, a chance, where not trying at all guarantees you won't have a second harvest. And yours is a much milder winter than I have here, so I rather envy you that. You might want to wait just a wee while longer before giving your spinach a second go. About it having bolted: sometimes for some crops it takes only a day or two of too-high temperatures to upset their growth cycles and to cause them to go to seed. Do you have seeds of that variety and of a second one to do a comparison (next spring-summer, I imagine) or just seeds to plant a bit closer to autumn to see how it grows in cooler weather? Much gardening love from Northeast Ohio, U.S.A.! 😊💚💚💚💚💚😊

@@thetinygarden_ No worries, Laura; as I've told someone else recently, the garden and I are so far behind this growing season that we may as well have time-traveled back to *last year.* It's fall sowings now and of course a sort of game of "chicken" with the average first frost date: will these crops mature before the first frost? Well, we shall see! Meanwhile, your studies must come first after caring for yourself and Roo. Are you starting your Brussels sprouts indoors? It seems as though you might be so doing, since you say the final growing spacee for them isn't ready yet. Thank you for the kind thought (about taking good care.) Much gardening love to you and Roo from Northeast Ohio, U.S.A.! 😊💚💚💚😊

Ugh. Concrete chunks and shredded plastic 😣 the bane of gardeners everywhere! I live in a windy suburb, and my garden seems to be a catch-all for people's rubbish that blows in. I'm constantly having to tread into my garden beds to pull rubbish out. Very frustrating, especially if the plastic disintegrates! When it gets to that point, I usually shovel it into a garbage bag, because I don't want it hanging around in my garden soil. Your allotment is looking amazing! Same with your Tiny Garden. I'm so envious! Everything is full of vibrant green and bright colours 💚 Here on the other side of the world, it's still overcast, grey, and looking mostly bare. I think only my daphne is flowering, but it smells divine, so that's nice!

You said how I felt in own word ugh! 😩 I am trying the same tactic, shoveling it up but there is a lot of it 🫣 The plot is starting to feel like a real grow space nice, keeping on top of the grass and weeds is a little challenge but I hope to buy an electric battery operated mower and strimmer..maybe the same brand and my drill because all the batteries will be interchangeable! Has your winter finished yet? 🤔Xx

@@thetinygarden_ we have winter until end of August. 1 September is the official start of spring here, so only just over halfway through our miserable winter 😅 August is usually the coldest month, but usually by then there's daffodils popping up optimistically. Although that said, a lot of bulbs are up earlier than expected. I think they might be confused about where we are in the season! We had several nights that dipped into the minuses, so it's possible that they think we're past the worst of the cold 😂

I didn't grow much this year in fact i only did Carrots, Onions, Spuds and Garlic, now that they have finished i got nowt growing not even a seed, my health is cocking things up for me so hence the none growing. Hi Laura, and Happy belated Birthday!🥳 With regards to the nodules I understand that the British Isles have had a lot of rain this season and (relatively) little clear and sunny days. Rainwater has a lot of nitrogen in it, so I believe the excess has allowed the plants to store more N in their roots. Less light also means less need for all that nurrient to build biomass above ground which excacerbates it further. A nice bonus for the coming few seasons as it slowly breaks down into the soil😁 I hope this helps. Best of luck with the final crunch for finishing your studies, you are killing it and I am in awe at everything you are able to achieve! Kind regards from Northern Norway
