Stop. I cannot "put unlimited instances across my entire mix." My mac shits the bed...very disappointed in my M1 studio thinking it was better than my '09 cheese grater...Barely but too many plugins on buses made both....shit the bed. Im loving my small 500 series collection and getting quicker better mixes IMO.

Love the depth of the TG at low input, Capi distortion on Capi even at medium input is badass. TG doesn't really add much character at medium, but impact the transient and dynamic it seems. High input TG is the king here, he show who the baddest, and the distortion is extremely tasty especially in the bass and that is I think a bit more unusual, the bass is always the more difficult part to get right in distortion. Love to see on a 808 bass or a Master . I think Capi is great for pop rock and vintage rock sound. TG is like more like motown, Nevish depth, and this distortion I can't wrap my head about another unit like this. I think it would be great for Trap/Metal/Raggaeton at high inuput And EDM/Rnb/Soul even Jazz a low input Just my opinion

Is Dadalife Sausage Fattener a good plugin for mastering?? It sounds great to me (for EDM), but I don't know exactly what it does, or if this is too aggressive. (btw love your videos) Thx :)

Analog does sound better. Of course it does. If you've tried analog gear, you know this first hand. Software emulations are great if you need a relatively cost-effective solution, but analog gear on your mix buses is indispensable and should be your goal, imo.

Don't buy the SSL 2 .. mine was bricked within a few months. Terrible buzzing from the first channel, second channel didn't work at all. The buttons are loose and fuzzy and it never felt like a quality product. Very plastic. That wouldn't have bothered me if the thing worked. Also it would constantly disconnect from my Mac. I tossed it in the garbage bought a Clarett and everything was solved. I spent months fooling with it , thinking it was a ground loop problem. Nope .. SSL 2 is just junk with a gimmicky branding. STAY AWAY FROM THIS THING. Mine sounded great for a couple of months. I've seen a lot of other people who've had these problems so I don't think my experience was extra special.

Me and a few of my friend are using those cheap ssl‘s for years now. Mine is used daily with vocals, acoustic and electric guitars and never ever had any problems. So from my experience I’d say yes it feels a little cheap but it’s a workhorse. The stuff I record with runs on streaming and radio. Can’t be so bad.

@Fiveash-Art 13 күн бұрын
@@derdude8201 I think it's possible they had a run of lemons at the beginning .. Because yes, I've heard a lot of people have had good experiences with them. Unfortunately not in my case, and I'm still loving my Clarett .. totally worth spending just a couple hundred more to upgrade it. I have a feeling a lot of people might also be happier with a bad sound and just don't hear what I'm talking about. When I first started using it, I didn't notice the problem as much until eventually I just couldn't ignore it. I've heard a lot of people who talk about the same exact problems. The terrible hum they get when they turn it up past the halfway mark on the input. It's a very real problem. Just because a piece of equipment is serviceable doesn't mean it's a good product. "can't be so bad." .. I'm glad you're happy with your SSL2 .. but for me it was 'bad'. So .. I'd still tell people to stay away from this thing. There are better products on the market for around the same price. This thing is overhyped on KZbin. I'm upset I fell for all the marketing. But we live and learn. "streaming radio" .. The hallmark of quality. 😂 just kidding.

Hi Josh. Thanks for sharing this video. I liked how you compare the versions. I also liked the song of the band "Indigo bloom". So if I did my homework correctly, It seems that their official song is not mixed and mastered correctly? It seems that the voice doesn't stand out very much. Am I right? kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqfFp4evoq2MjqM

Very interesting, I'm new here and already love your channel and the quality of information provided here. You are one of the few mastering engineers on KZbin to match the mix and master level in your demo, and for me this is super important because streaming platforms like Spotify normalize the music to -14 LUFS. Even if the master is louder than the mix, if you upload the mix and master separately to streaming platforms, most of them will play them with the same LUFS loudness level, so we need to see what the real improvement is at the mastering stage and make sure the master sounds better than the mix. In your case, your master sounds much better than the mix, it's an excellent and perfect job. Have a nice day! 🌞 Kind Regards from Montreal, Canada! 🎼🃏🎵🎶😀👋

Some masters come out louder regardless. It’s due to the composition, song writing , and recording and tracking . That affects the mix , and the master , greatly .

Josh your channel is teaching me a ton! How would you go about picking reference tracks for a song that's being produced in 2023, but is maybe in the style/genre of older music produced in the 60s/70s? Would you use era appropriate music as your reference, or more modern tracks that may have been mastered for the competitive streaming market?

At least in this case your mastered track still has some dynamics and over all clarity left, unlike so many mastered versions i see where its just a Brick wall Limited wall of mush. So with yours both the mix and the mastered version sound good as you did not turn it into a wall of mush, awesome some actually do it right and try to maintain sound quality making the mix sound good not just loud for the sake of loud, nice work.

Hi been making music about a year now. My thing is i only have a smartphone with bandlab. I recently tried using the built in distribution. Everything turned out bad. Essentially i just want to know what ideas you have for someone with no money at all for paying someone to mix. And no other tools such as a desktop to do my own mixing which is what i prefer. Any tips?

Very well explained. As for the sounds, I definitely prefer the mixed one. Very much space between the instruments and more pleasant for the ears. I imagine the mastered one is good when doing playback on all types of medium (ranging from speakers to phone) but the mixed one played on bit speakers is just great, opens up very much more.

Hey josh, I recently visited your KZbin channel and noticed is that your content is very good but your video has no view & subscriber. However, upon further inspection, I identified several areas that could use improvement. One crucial aspect is search engine optimization (SEO). particularly the implementation of rank tags and tag volume. It seems like these elements have not been fully addressed on your channel. There may be other issues as well, but these are the ones that stood out to me

I have read all of the documentation & created a workflow to comply with ADM protocols. However, it says (on the apple website) that in order to become certified I must "Contact your Apple Music Label Representative to be put in touch with an Apple Digital Masters specialist." I do NOT have a "Label representative" so how would I go about getting the contact information for an "Apple digital masters specialist"?

I heard an old album from 72 from a group called Sly and the family Stone, and immediately, l was like, that's it! That's the sound I want! So, l began working on my EP with software and plugin emulations, and let me tell you, they sounded nowhere near the sound l was trying to achieve😢 So, I decided to by Tascam 8 track cassette recorder and some Joe Meek compressors, eqs and mic pres and a boss analog stereo chrous. Now, these things didn't exactly sound like what l was hearing on the Sly and the family Stone album, but it got me a HELL OF A LOT CLOSER than protools and its fancy wannbe "analog" emulations. I dont care what they say....Analog rules, baby!!!

Search “TC finalizer” to see all the charting hits true peak values. Almost all of them go over 0, some go WAY over 0. Just set your final limiter ceiling to -0.3db (don’t use true peak mode) and don’t worry about ISP/True peaks. At the end of the chain, try Oxford inflator (100% effect, curve to taste, (0% to start) band split engaged) into a soft clipper (1-3db), into a hard clipper (0.5-1db), into 1-2 limiters doing an equal amount of limiting. If using 2 limiters, make sure the first limiter ceiling is 0, and that you match the output so that there’s no volume change when on/off. The volume will come from the final limiter.

Hey so an issue I’m having is that when I’m very “novicely” mixing and mastering my track it sounds good on ableton (using the m-audio air or the scarlet 2i2 interface and Yamaha headphones) But when I send it to my phone and I use my AirPod pro to listen & it sounds super loud the vocals sound louder then the beat as if none of my mixing transferred over to my Phone. All the effects etc are there it’s just the audio levels that change any idea on why the change? I use stock plug-ins Eq, compressor, saturator multiband compression and light limiter.
