Could you use weight shift to move it laterally. if you had a boom with a weight on it that could be angled in the direction of the intended flight direction. .

2:28 Why can you not use wire braced wings and more? If you have a third as much vertical space on the axle, then you just need three times the wire strength... And the added stress on the strut inside the wing should still be negligible, I would guess. Scaling it up would potentially cause problems, though. Three times the wing span means 9 times the wing area, and thus 9 times the lift and weight.

I wonder if the central mower could be used to start the outer mowers. You have that drive mechanism that you took out of the central one, for example. You won't be able to directly use it, since it will be too geared down; but it's giving you the point where the power would be coming from, so all you need is a point for power to enter the other two mowers and a single centrifugal clutch.

Great job. I think you will need motor driven propellers to be 90 digress to the ground to get the best thrust. Have a look at tale dragger aeroplanes and propeller efficiency at high angle of attack. I hope this helps 😊

Enjoy your videos very much. Instead of lengthening the center shaft, have you thought about removing 2 to 3 inches of length off the lower wings where they join the center shaft. This should give you the clearance needed and be easier than lining the center. Just a thought. Good luck with your project.
@ianhesford
@ianhesford 2 күн бұрын
On prop clearance between the upper and lower rotors, have you considered extending the motor mount at the tips of each of the blades/wings for either the top or bottom rotors? By staggering the overall lengths between top and bottom rotors by even just a few inches so they aren’t passing directly over or under each other, you can buy yourself extra clearance equal to twice the length of your prop blades. Edit: super excited to follow this project.

Why not make the bottom wings a little shorter or longer than the top wings then you won’t have the problem of the props hitting each other as they spin.

Good point. I made all wings the same, except for mirroring one set, for the sake of simplicity of construction. The airflow under the upper set will be contracted so a smaller diameter lower set of wings would do just fine, so yes, good idea. Might just do that if I ever get around iterating on this coaxial version of the levitator.

I have a prediction but it will probably be wrong 😆. My prediction is that the coaxial version won't solve the problem of rotor flap back. I think both rotors will flap back at a similar air speed to the previous version. I only say this because I believe I have experienced flap back in a coaxial. I think they behave the same as single rotors do. Like I say I'm probably wrong, you are way brighter than me, hope it works ok so we can find out.

@@amazingdiyprojects As I say Axel I might be wrong, we need to know the answer. It will be great learning about this machine and it will worth the effort either way. Yours is unique in that you can control each rotor speed individually and it's tip driven, very interesting stuff.

I like that leading edge bow construction. 👍🙂👍 Did you come up with that design or was it adapted from another vehicle?
@amazingdiyprojects
@amazingdiyprojects 3 күн бұрын
Well, I did come up with this for this specific build; a (relative) light weight simple wing structure. However, I would expect that there is just one like this somewhere else around already. Its a big world with a whole lot of wonderful creative people in it after all! :-) -That being said, it really does put a smile on my face that someone else understands and appreciate details like this, I did feel cleaver when I came up with this solution for making the leading edge light and stiff.

@@amazingdiyprojects For a few years now I have been trying to build the world’s last paper airplane. Not using any tape or glue. I have considered many designs. All have failed to achieve the desired results. My next design will look somewhat like a delta triangle hand glider or a stunt kite. The skin will be attached similarly to the way roll up blinds are attached to a central rod. That will limit the shape and size of the plane. I would consider using your design if I wanted to make a curved leading edge. I will keep it in mind. So, yes. I could make your entire design only out of paper. I especially also like your three part blade design. That could be key to making my design lighter. If I went with a soft leading edge design like an umbrella has .

What if you created more space between the rotors by essentially flipping the lower rotor upside-down instead of making the machine taller? I e. blades on the bottom, braces facing up.

Adding mass to your undercarriage at a radius would increase the moment of inertia. Would dampen the rotation and be much easier to control.
