Great video, Scotty! that's too bad it cut short. The Silky Kata na is awesome, very handy for sure especially winter camping. I just found out about the Cold Weather Canteen earlier this year. Would really like to find one. That's good to know that the Dutch sleeping pad isn't that great, I sleep on my back and left side. Thanks for the info. I wanted to ask you for some advice. With my CFP-90 pack, it has a funky smell that I can't seem to get rid of. I tried putting some of those Arm and Hammer balls with odor absorber in them, and leaving them in the pack. That isn't working. Was wondering if you have had that experience with any of your surplus gear and if you have any suggestions? Thanks. Take care. 👍🏻

I'm really looking forward to your Wisconsin video. I am not impressed with the mattress pad's that the U.S. Army issues. I've spent a fair amount of time in the field. But left the mattress pad behind because they take up too much space anyway. The ties usually break off after a while. I learned to sleep on the ground, concrete, or a flat steel surface in a sleeping bag. No mattress pad needed. Your videos make me want to buy a new sleeping bag and do some overnighters in the woods.

@@scottysurvival you'll neither either a fire on both sides of you, or some sort of mylar or other reflector behind you. Search yt for the alternative Swedish fire torch and the Siberian fire lay. With just the field jacket, dont expect to sleep if it's below 60F, even with 2 fires Warm the ground between the fires with another fire, then rake away the coals and ashes. C'onsider digging 4 pits in a row and putting a hot, head sized rock in each hole. Have a low slung hammock just over the rocks, or a low raised pole-bed. Surround each stone with a 2" thick layer of ashes and they will warm you for several hours.

It is good to use caution when buying a pre-owned sleeping bag. The material on the down sleeping bags will rot over time and tear easily. A supply sergeant gave me a sleeping bag one time. I found out why. It was rotten and losing feathers. There are people on eBay selling old down sleeping bags and they are leaking.
