Hi, Great video. Love the fact you can get the dog in the tent with you and still have room. I came across you searching for reviews on the Pioneer 2. I'm looking for a 1/2 man, spacious tent around 2kg for cycle touring and occasional hiking and this seems to tick the boxes. there usually only be me, or me and a grandkid. I had a Vango Hurricane years ago and it was a great tent but it had little venting and little mesh and was unbearable in summer until late at night. I was wondering if you'd camped out in warmer weather and how the tent did. Also, I've read complaints about the inner and outer touching on the non-vestibule side! Have you had this problem, or is it just people who can't set their tents up properly complaining. Many thanks in advance for your views. PS I live in Shropshire to 👍

I personally love the Phoxx 1 and 2. At 1.6kg, the Phoxx 1 is a bombproof little bikepacking tent that can pretty much take anything thrown at it! And for 58 quid, you really can't go wrong!

Yessss , the beloved brecon beacons, home sweet home for me, especially doing the 'fan dance' so many times whilst in the Army. An infantry mans greatest test of strength, courage ,stamina in all conditions.. Im 60 now, so can enjoy the beacons at my leisure, and leisurely pace too 😊. Always had vango tents, very reliable,sturdy..Not a fan of these modern fancy lightweight sil nylon tents, like the lanshans. I seen a few smashed up ones on my travels during very windy conditions ,even in summer..They say they two season tents, however that means nothing if a very windy day comes along ...Great videos mate, good to see tbe beacons again 😊.

i do love my vango nevis 300 tent, works great for me and my friend with ample room to keep the bags dry when going on week long camping trips, doesnt feel too heavy either although i know theres lighter options. i think would be a bit tight for 3 of us unless the bags stayed outside could quite comfortable fit 3 but then bags get wet.

Your lanshan 2 would fail a long time before the vango. You chose the wrong tent, should have selected vango blade 200. The vango kit might be slightly heavy in some cases, but will never let you down, and is sensibly designed, tested, and very reasonably priced. Brecon is not a creepy place, just exposed. You big girls blouse.

My best Christmas and New Year wishes to you, your family, along with Chezza. May you visit lots of lovely spots, and let the upbeat mood stay with you for the whole next year! You probably didn't know that, but in Belarus where I'm living at the moment, there are 2 Christmas celebrations: on 25 December and 7 January, the Orthodox one. I have only bad experience with Vango kit. Used their extra thick (7cm double size) self inflating mats, very expensive, amazingly comfortable but barely last a fortnight. Couldn't find the puncture so bought another, at seventy quid a go it cost about a tenner a night before it developed a slow puncture. Denied any sort of refund or replacement from the shop (Charlie's Hardwear Shrewsbury) took a chance a few years later when they did a 10cm thick mat. Amazingly comfortable, I bought two singles, one lasted a week. Again, no refund from Charlie's, told to contact Vango myself. I was going to buy a 5.man tent with inflatable poles but reviews all said that poles developed a leak shortly after guarantee period of two years expired.

Hey. The stove was amazing! All the other stuff was OK. I've got 4 Banshee's that I use for the Great Outsiders trips and to be honest, 3 of them have gotten bent poles from the wind, so they're not that tough. I like the pad, it's good value for money IMO. SO you're a Shrewsbury person? Me too. You should come on some of the Great Outsiders trips. We're running a few next year! Scotland, Dartmoor, Shropshire. Thanks for the comment, it's really appreciated and sorry you've had bad luck with the Vango stuff.

A 90mph storm was forcast a long time ago, so up I went into the hills in my trusty Akto, leaving the Tarra at home, that was fun. I notice that you pitch your tent correctly, other youtubers tighten the akto's or enan's pole guylines so much that the pole goes flat ontop, then complain about not enough head height. Surprised that you didnt double pole your akto for a storm if expecting high winds.

Hey 👋👋. Thanks for the comment, I did actually once make a KZbin video where I did indeed set the akto up incorrectly and during the video whined like a small child about how I couldn't sit up and was consequently corrected by watches of the video on my comments feed. I did actually double pole it but I omitted it from the video. What is your go-to tent at the moment?

Another excellent vid, James. As you well know, I love Y Rhinogydd, for precisely the reasons you say in the vid itself. You don't have to stray far from the trails and you can be in areas where there's little sign of human activity - except, weirdly, there are ancient drystone walls that seem to serve no purpose, because no-one has ever lived, farmed, or mined in those places! I have this story in my head that some wealthy landowner paid a fortune to hundreds of peasants, over years and years, to build these walls. Then told everyone to, "stay orf moi laaaand." And everyone looked at him, shrugged, and said, "er, yeah, alright, we weren't intending to go there anyway, you can barely find a spot big enough to erect a Hilleberg Akto, so we ain't going to be building any houses up there."
