Hey David, thank you for watching and commenting! We wouldn't have time for an actual virtual hitting lesson. Plus, there would have to be multiple cameras for that to work well. However, what most people do is send a video over to me, and then we break down the swing together.

Damn I wish I could get a pocket radar for cheap, I wanna keep track of my sons velocity for hitting and pitching but with everything I had to upgrade this season (new bat, glove, team fees) there’s no way I can spend $300 on a radar

Hey BaltimoreJay, thanks for watching and commenting. I personally recommend the Pocket radar because i've seen it be the most accurate. However, My friend says this radar gun (below) is 90% accurate, and it's super cheap compared to pocket radar. How about starting there and moving on up to the pocket radar over time. You're absolutely right that they're both correct. The difference is that some people teach the feel of the hands, and other people teach barrel path. The hands do come down to the ball almost like putting a seat belt on in a car, but teaching this way assumes that kids already whip the barrel rearward and rotate their wrists. It also takes for granted that kids are already naturally bending over at the waist and tilting in their swing. If they don't whip the barrel and bend/tilt, telling them to swing down will only produce a literal downward tree chop pushy swing.

@Nightfall - could you go back and use punctuation? I'm really not trying to be a grammar snob here - I feel like there are some real gems in what you're trying to say, but I can't really tell when a thought stops and the next one starts. Did you mean to place a period after "elbow" in the first sentence? And kind of feels like there is something missing in the second sentence between "why" and "is."? Any clarification? Thanks in advance.

I will make a video about this soon. But, what I did when I was a pro baseball player, facing guys who threw 100mph, I would hit off a pitching machine and walk closer to it. I just watched it at times, other times I would swing. But as I got closer it sped the reaction time up. I went as far as I could go to the machine. Then I walked back slowly, and the ball slowed down. When the game started, 100mph felt slow. This is what most major league players do, and I believe it will help you too.

What approach would work best for a hitter like me. I can often make contact but it’s usually line drives down the oppo line. When I hit the ball in the air it’s a flair to the opposite field, and when I pull the ball it is a low line drive. I know I have the mechanics but I can’t find an approach that allows me to pull the ball with power, but also stay consistent.

@JermaineCurtis55 He looks good. I've been teaching the "pat yourself on the back" technique for years as a way to clean up roll over and have better bat path. It works well. I usually tell kids to focus on the feel of giving someone an uppercut to the ribs as a way of teaching getting on plane, and driving the rear hip. Very similar concept to what you were doing here with how you had him throwing the ball with his top hand. I definitely approve. It's a good idea. It's just funny to me because I get into heated debates with many coaches that tell me I'm teaching an "uppercut swing" that's only gonna produce pop-ups. Meanwhile, I watch many of the kids from these coaches unable to figure out how not to hit flared grounders on a low outside tee setting because they're unable to get behind the ball and just swing down at it. Also, I love the dog ball thrower idea. That's a new one for me. I'm gonna have to try that out. I've always told kids that the lead arm is the guide through the swing plane. The dog ball thrower shows that perfectly with immediate feedback. Well done. 👍🏻

@daverude417

@@JermaineCurtis55 I have a 12 year old son, just trying to give him the right info on hitting. Some people believe HLP is a good hitting method, but then some say its a really bad method, however, I have not been able to find a good thorough explanation of why its bad. I hear things like you'll strikeout and pop-out a lot. There are 3-4 main elements to the HLP swing philosophy, coiling (everybody thinks this is good), tilting/pivoting on back hip (some think this is good), really keeping weight back (most think this is good), the hand snap (very controversial but essential for HLP), it takes a little time to understand HLP but once understood, it's a pretty simple process, the simplicity is what interest me. I have been trying to figure out the baseball swing for the last 2-3 years. I do think there is a right way to swing but different ways to get to that place, I think everyone just needs to find the instruction and drills that makes sense to them and leads to that good swing
@JermaineCurtis55
@JermaineCurtis55 6 күн бұрын
Yeah, I hear you. I think a lot of people are out there searching for the 'right' information. I agree that there are a lot of phony hitting gurus online who have never actually hit themselves. However, what people need to find is the 'right information for them.' Aaron Judge has been coached by hundreds of coaches throughout his life, and he found what worked for him. Does this mean it will work for your son? I don't know. It might, but it might not. You never know unless you try it out. So go and experiment. Just remember to stay in communication with your son. A lot of people always look outward for the answer, but the answer is usually inward.
