What do you recommend for welding American force forged wheels? 4043? 5056?

What are your tig welder settings and tungsten/filler rod sizes? I usually use 55 amps and 1/16 tungsten and rod.

That was great how to video. It's not a big project, but solving a problem sometimes happens on old cars. That Scout is looking pretty good rust wise. I love these old Internationals, but they don't last long on in New York and New England. Good job on the repair. Nice to see this back on the road. Sometimes the simplest things can get an owner to give up on a car.

4043 rod isnt the filler material to use on AL Mg Si wheels. I can do a stronger repair than that in 15 minutes.

Leave it to the hispanics to put so much time and effort into something so trivial that doesn’t even affect the function of the car. They really do love their shiny things

@ Yes. Old coke cans too. We used to cut the bottoms out of 5 cans and tape together. We then cut the top of another leaving a a portion around the opening and taping it as the bottom one. Then we punched a hole near its bottom on the side. Dropped a tennis ball in & squirted lighter fluid in and pointer up. Lit it and boom there went the tennis ball a really good distance. Sure as hell not with today’s cans !

While a fairly simple patch I still think you did an awesome job pattern making and fitting it up. It really shouldn't scare anyone to make patches like you demonstrate! Good job and sweet result.

I was gonna get into this but where i live (south miami) people are too cheap to pay even 150 for bent rim. They want everything for 20.. IF you do get into this, make sure to NOT deal with customers directly or you'll have fire up your ass for stupid reasons, so protect your ass and let the tire shop deal with the customers. Overall, great vid for rim welding. Also, don't bother replying to stupid comments, it's uTube; LIfe ain't worth the aggravation over haters..

Try this: take a regular car tire and cut discs out of them to make a stack, including a hollowed out center to the desired radius. Should end up heavier and a better size/shape to work with.
