This is so cool. I keep relistening to Eric's deleted vocal at 8 minutes. Big mistake to pull that. Beautiful, spiritual. The ladies would've all been in tears. (sure doesn't hurt having one of the finest voices in rock singing it)

it's crazy how influential townshend is, if there's anything in rock pete townshend probably did it first and still doesn't get credit for it.

This is one of the BEST music album docos out there on KZbin. A must watch for any music lover or curious cat!! It dives into the complex and delicate techniques and methods used in producing a song back the golden adays of musical talent.... Sadly long long gone these days.

I'm surprised they didn't mod a mellotron and record the vocals on that.

As a huge Pete Townshend and the Who fan I love listening to his interviews. His outlook in life and the role of music has molded him into a truly unique category of a musician. The man is a musical genius. Long Live Rock!

I can't decide whether I prefer the vocal version or this version. I listen to one and think I prefer that, then listen to the other and think I prefer that. The vocal version is kind of heartbreaking, but the guitars when it switches to the hook sound so good!

Considering the amount of time it takes to create a song and the advanced skills of the Ultravox members who create it with such precision, I feel the weight of each song and it deserves respect.

Such a fascinating person. I immediately moved to his solo work when the Who stop making albums. All the Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes was my first purchase. I know every song, word, tune by heart of that album….incredible album. Naturally I bought Empty Glass straight way. Then White City, Iron Man….all great albums. My fav woukd have to be Deep End.

I always thought that "mistake" was brillianyly perverse, and really added to the character of the song...Debbie was just plain astounding in every way, and Clem will always be my favorite drummer. What a band!!!

This is interesting because they are very positive about the machines synthesisers that they used to craft the songs, it’s not just what he (Midge Ure) and the other band members of Ultravox are saying but how they speak, the tone contains positive vibe. That is heard in the music, a type of passion and zeal for making their music songs.

I always wondered how they created these digital sounding vocals long before digital sampling was created. At the time, this went completely unnoticed. We took this genius composition completely for granted. We saw it as just another pop music radio hit. It's only now after we see how it stood the test of time do we realize what a gift this level of talent was/is to the world.
