I have a totally stock '17 GX. I'm not interested in extreme overlanding or rock crawling. I am interested in back country camping on, for example, forest service roads. So I'm looking for some advice on what size Wheels and tires you would recommend to gain a little ground clearance. I love the TRD wheels you used and I'm here in Utah as well and know there are a lot available. Thanks for your input. I really enjoy your channel!
@BackroadExploration3 күн бұрын
I’ve been running 33s and it’s been fantastic. It gets me anywhere I want to go. If you just want to do forest service roads you could get away with 31s. I went TRD take off route wheel wise because they are inexpensive option in the used market

i'm just curious why would you buy something that you know what it is and complains about it..don't get me wrong also.i'm just trying to understand you..i've been watching your video and so far i like it..don't take my comment in a negative way..just wanna have a reasonable discussions to better understand the gx460..before i buy 1.does it has something to do with the Gx generations??
@exploresouthwest9 күн бұрын
0:59 100% That's what it is. It's a water Guzzler where the water runs off the metal into a collection area, and then usually into a holding tank or something where it won't evaporate as easily and some goes out where the cattle can drink it. I've seen a few variations of it in Utah but the basic build build is the same. And they still work amazingly well even when they're half worn out.
@BackroadExploration9 күн бұрын
Makes sense. I have done a lot of exploring in Utah and don’t remember seeing one but perhaps I just didn’t notice. Very cool

Got my running boards cut off and it looks so much better in general. I’d also recommend removing the 3rd row, you gain 5 inches of space and can get some drawers in there or even just more height for storage
@BackroadExploration12 күн бұрын
Did you put in sliders? How does it look. I running boards? I need the third row 4 kids, but totally love the idea for most people
@wesleyniemela29512 күн бұрын
@ i was going to put on sliders, but I really don’t need them. Cutting off the running boards gives you a few inches clearance and it just trims the fat of the vehicle. I like the look a lot better its not hanging as low.
@BackroadExploration12 күн бұрын
That’s how I’ve felt. I don’t think I need them. But was worried about the look. What did you do with the lights? Are you in IG I want to check it out.

Boy, this is almost to a point exactly how I've done my GX and, almost 100k miles later, I couldn't be happier. I'm so glad there are others basically doing OEM+ in their approach in a world of paid 'influencers' who dump $70k into their rigs just to flex on the Gram and YT. Question - how has the NashFabCo ladder held up? Mine rusted something awful. I tried to waterproof it but it was too far gone and I had to scrap it.
@BackroadExploration15 күн бұрын
I’ve noticed a few places on the hardware where rust is creeping in. Not ideal after a little over a year on the rig

I got one of those Tail Wing installed on the top spoiler and the lip is like 1-2 inches out... do you think the ladder will have enough clearance? since the top part is taped to the top of the spoiler by 3M tape. Or should i just get the Half ladder from Nashfabco? your opinion and input will be greatly appreciated 🙏

@TheOffroadCamperАй бұрын
These types of situations are why I’m hoping to upgrade and/or modify my rig and trailer to allow me to carry more tools on board. I have a lot of tools and equipment that are in storage, they would be very useful in situations where somebody’s broke down on a remote trail.

@BackroadExplorationАй бұрын
Overall this portion of the trail was just a bit too rough and technical for that trailer.
@TheOffroadCamperАй бұрын
No offense to this gentleman, I really like his trailer, very cute. Somebody needs to help this guy build proper off-road trailer with off-road suspension. Then he can keep this cute little bugger for the the on road adventures. I have experience with a very similar teardrop. I’ve had both a tab 320 and tag XL Boondock both had torsion axles. That is exactly why I now have a trailer with true independent suspension with shock absorbers on each wheel, and real all-terrain tires. It is great see you guys pitch in as a team and get the disabled trailer off the trail. These are experiences and memories you will always remember.
@BackroadExplorationАй бұрын
@TheOffroadCamper I’ve been impressed with where he has been able to get this trailer. But this trail proved to be too technical for it. I do believe he’s working on building a more robust offroad trailer for trails this one is not up to.
