Another propaganda video from the failed superpower, America! That can't build hypersonics, and instead has to lie! Dark Eagle is not Mach 17! Only its booster rocket is Mach 17 in the upper atmosphere, where missiles have been going above Mach 20 for decades, so Mach 17 is worthless there. Oreshnik is 25 Mach there. Dark Eagle glider is only Mach 5 in the atmosphere. But Orshnik is Mach 12 in the atmosphere. Dark Eagle is 2700 km, Oreshnik is 5500 km. Dark Eagle does not have a nuclear warhead, but Orshnik does. Dark Eagle has no combat operations, but Orshnik does. Dark Eagle is a fake Mach 5 hypersonic with no track record! But Orshnik is a real Mach 12 hypersonic that has defeated Western defenses.

I’m really not sure what the point of even comparing these two systems even is. They are both being made for two completely different doctrinal purposes. LRHW is being built as part of the “global prompt strike” plan. A long range missile which serves as a reliable but very expensive way to help ensure you can service a point target that you really need dealt with quickly. It isn’t going to be available in any sort of number that will have any sort of major strategic impact, it’s part of a wider strategy and is being built to facilitate various strategies or problematise opposing operations. Oresnik on the other hand is a relatively simple concept of throwing a bunch of metal objects (I’d imagine later actually some sort of miniaturised warheads too, else it would be an odd way to throw metal sticks around) from one point to another at a decent range for striking some sort of strategic target like a large factory, power infrastructure or a city. Its main challenge is the fact that it introduces nuclear ambiguity in their launches and the opposing force now has to work out whether the launch of them is a nuclear attack or a conventional one and decide how to respond. Two completely different weapons for two completely different purposes. Comparing them is a strange exercise to say the least. (Edit: correction, DE isn’t a cruise missile but instead a hypersonic boost glide weapon, roughly analogue to chinas DF-ZF)
@marko1263
@marko1263 Күн бұрын
The main threat of the Oreshnik is the number of submunitions it carries. 10 missiles carrying 36 submunitions each is a lot. Ofc it's probably very expensive to make so i doubt Russia can make more than a few annually.
@Lord_Drokoth
@Lord_Drokoth Күн бұрын
@ oh yes. Absolutely. The thing that makes the concept a bit odd is that Russia already has quite a few arguably good and reliable systems that can do that sort of damage (probably more in some cases) quite reliably and more accurately for a lot less investment and potential risk. If you wanted to hit something like a factory, you can target major elements of it with smaller faster missiles (things like regular cruise missile spam supported by strike drones or even something like the Zircon) and do better damage to it. The recent oresnik impacts don’t appear to have any sort of explosive yield. So seem to be currently just a bunch of hard fast moving objects. Which would absoloutely hurt whatever they were to hit, but not have much impact beyond that. Given that there’s still a risk that a mass launch of them could be seen as a nuclear attack and thus potentially cause a much more “inconvenient” result, it’s an odd choice to lean into.
@marko1263
@marko1263 Күн бұрын
@ I think this system is specifically meant for striking U.S. airbases in Europe in the event of a war. This makes a lot of sense based on the design and range. Their only alternative to this are tactical nuclear weapons which nobody wants to use given the risks.

Russia's missile is not a hypersonic weapon, by definition. The "O" missile is a ballistic missile. It's no different than the Iskander. One is medium range and the latter is short range. By definition, in order to be dubbed a hypersonic missile, in terms of the increased difficulty to shoot down. If we go by Russia's definition, then the German V2 was a hypersonic missile. It launches quasi-ballistic trajectory. We've been shooting down intermediate/short range ballistic missiles with the ORIGINAL Patiot PAC-1 in the middle east since the '90's. Anyone remember what a SCUD is? Here is the definition of a modern day hypersonic missile. It must reach Mach 5 or higher and maintain atleast Mach 5 throughout the entire trajectory, including the terminal phase. The "Oreshnik" MIRV's were not traveling at hypersonic speeds in the video showing the impacts. Yes, they were hauling @ss, but nowhere near hypersonic. A few of the missiles, Iran shot off at Israel in 2024, were close to Mach 5 at terminal stage. Lastly, again, in terms of modern day definition of hypersonics, it's either going to be a cruise missile or a HGV. MIRV's and HGV's are not the same thing. MIRV's enter the atmosphere at hypersonic speeds, but slow down tremendously in atmosphere. Closer to target, the more dense the air is. The Oreshnik is a ballistic missile with MIRV's. That's it. Nothing new. And those MIRV's are so small, they don't have room for explosives. Just impact damage. It would be something if it hit the target at Mach 5+ speeds. That's what the Dark Eagle does. Oh and I almost forgot. We can shoot down the Oreshnik. We have multiple ways to shoot it down. THAAD was built for that. AEGIS is literally unstoppable with the super duper missile; SM-3. And I bet if you gave the Patriot PAC-3 could probably knock down a couple MIRV's. That's the only way to defeat a missile like this. You have to destroy it out of the earth's atmosphere, typically just after 1st stage separation or 2nd stage. If it has a 3rd stage, then it's an intercontinental or it's just a delivery bus. Once the MIRV's separate from the bus, with or without decoys, then I'd change into my brown pants.

Basically MARV vs MIRVs. Going at Mach 17, LRHW/Dark Eagle's MARV will have 3 times the KE of a single Oreshnik MIRV going at Mach 10. And is maneuverable too. However Oreshnik has 6 MIRVs each containing sub munitions. Which one will be more powerful may ultimately depend on their intended usage. For sinking Type 003 for example within PLAN CSG, LRHW/Dark Eagle may seem more useful as it can evade enemy defenses. But when flattening an entire airfield, Oreshnik may seem more optimal. I wonder if they can make MARVs small enough so that Minuteman III or upcoming Sentinel can carry 3 x MARVs. While Trident II will carry the most MIRVs.

It's not a MARV, it a Glide Vehicle or Boost-glide which are unpowered, but with very high speed. MARV are powered by some rocket engine on their tails, like Iran Fattah 1 and the US Pershing II missile for an example which is still ballistic.

Dark Eagle isn't MARVed. Not only that but the Dark Eagle doesn't carry any explosives in it's warhead, relying exclusively on kinetic energy to destroy targets.. This again shows the superiority of US missile tech vs the Russian one.. Not a single hypersonic missile being developed by the US military will carry nuclear payload. That means we have to develop extremely precise missiles. On the other hand the Russkies develop hypersonic missiles in 2-3 years, call them operational after a single successful test and mount an ancient nuclear warhead at the top, making the missiles's CEP 500 meters.. We make precision weapons, Russians target cities...

NO! It doesn't matter. The flight path, speed and maneuverability of a missile depends on the AERODYNAMICS of the missile. The aerodynamics of a missile refers to how air flows around the missile during its flight and how this flow affects its stability, control, and performance. It involves studying the forces acting on the missile, including: 1. Lift: The force that helps counteract gravity in aerodynamic shapes. However, for missiles, lift primarily helps stabilize and guide the missile along its intended trajectory. 2. Drag: The air resistance opposing the missile's forward motion, which can reduce its speed and efficiency. 3. Thrust: The forward force produced by the missile's propulsion system, which must overcome drag. 4. Stability and Control: The missile's ability to maintain its orientation and respond to control inputs. This involves factors like its shape, center of gravity, and fins for guidance. 5. Mach Regime: Missiles often operate at supersonic or hypersonic speeds, so the behavior of air (e.g., shockwaves) around the missile is a critical consideration. Aerodynamic design ensures the missile flies accurately, efficiently, and stably to hit its target while minimizing resistance and maximizing speed.

South Korea's military might deals with North Korea outwardly but is geared towards China internally. For South Korea, North Korea's nuclear program serves as a good excuse for its military buildup. Two Koreans, South Korea and North Korea, have a lot in common. They are basically the same people, with only different systems. Some South Koreans support North Korea's nuclear development because it gives a unified Korea the right to possess nuclear weapons. Though they are a small number, they are now the leading force of the large opposition party, which has a very high possibility of taking power. The ballistic missile of King Jeongjo's ship is a bunker buster now, but when Korea is unified, only warheads need to be changed to nuclear weapons.. So, the South Korean government is not very active in the North Korean nuclear issue. The regime in North Korea can change at any time. That may be tomorrow. And the two Koreas could be unified at any time. A leader could die at any time, and a regime could change at any time. Looking at South Korea now, you can understand why South Koreans think so. Everything changes in North Korea as long as Kim Jong-un disappears, and everything changes in South Korea as long as the president changes. So, there is no need for the people to come forward and go to war at all. However, the possibility of war on the Korean Peninsula is very high. If the pro-Beijing regime collapses in North Korea, Chinese troops are expected to invade North Korea. For South Korea, it is considered a territorial invasion by China. So, there is no choice but to go to war with China. Polls show that South Koreans do not want to be unified. This is not only because of economic damage for the rich South Koreans, but also because of the fear of the price that they have to pay for Chinese interference. However, few South Koreans accept North Korea becoming a Chinese territory. Even if it is going to be an all-out war with China, it probably is. The emergence of a democratic and unified state on the Korean Peninsula, close to the capital Beijing, would be a great fear for China. Chinese interference is inevitable, and Koreans will not be able to tolerate it either. Koreans are the closest country to China in the world, but also Koreans are the ones who hate China the most in the world. The people closest to Japan in the world are Koreans, but also, those who hate Japan the most are Koreans. That is what happens when countries fight against each other without complete victory or complete defeat for 2,000 years.. There are two systems on the Korean Peninsula, but Koreans living in completely different systems have many similar ideas... One can understand why North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who is absolutely dependent on China, sent troops to Russia despite China's fierce opposition. Just as South Korea rejects Japan whenever it has a chance, North Korea abandons China when it has a chance. Perhaps many people were surprised to see South Korea's Yoon Suk Yeol on the emergency martial arts show. They have different systems and tremendous economic levels, but they are the same Koreans with similar ideas.. 50 years ago, South Korea developed nuclear weapons and missiles in opposition to the withdrawal of U.S. forces during military dictatorship. It ended when the South Korean president, who was pushing for it, was assassinated. What the North Korean regime is doing was the same thing the South Korean regime did against the U.S. 50 years ago..

@FP_Defense_News I am following a research trail from an AP article from July of 2003, describing the DOD's desire to develop a mach 5 reusable by 2010 called the FALCON system. This is the closest I have come to a system that clears that bench. Can you point me to any useful information about the evolution of this project?
